    Suicide Club

This arrived in the post today, anyone seen it? It appears to be one of those films that nobody seems interested in releasing over here for some strange reason. The situation is a bit like with the film Stacy; which is a fun film by the way.
I hear the opening scene in this is a real shocker. Maybe AB'S Dark Asia should think about releasing this one?

If anyone does import this make sure you get the one with the red ("Unrated") line across the bottom of the cover, the other one is the R rated version.

I've seen it and found it to be very strange and weird. I couldn't follow the plot and didn't understand the ending either.
Ok, the opening sequence is a shocker but the rest wan't my cup of tea.

I've seen this. Overall i'd say it was a good film but would definitely say that the first half is much better than the second half which seems to lose direction. The opening scene and a certain scene in the kitchen are the definite highlights of this movie!

Is Stacy worth buying? Everything i've read about it has been negative. Would you say it was better than Junk which I thought was poor in comparison to Versus and Wild Zero?

I absolutely hate Versus with a passion and i thought Junk was okish. Wild Zero, to be honest I didn't really get - i'll have to watch it again.
I did enjoy Stacy, but it is very cheap looking, i'm not a big fan of DV. What hooked my interest was it's overwhelming earnestness and its honesty, they make it quite endearing. The director certainly wears his heart on his sleeve.
The big plus is that it is very unpretentious which I find to be a novelty in all the crap that is out there, i'm thinking Versus here

It's certainly my favourite Japanese zombie film, though to be honest there arn't that many, and most of them are crap.

Cool, you've convinced me to get this and I can certainly understand why you could hate Versus. As you say, there aren't many Japanese zombie films and most of them aren't special but i'm really looking forward to a dvd release of Tokyo Zombie. Any zombie film which stars Sho Aikawa and Tadanobu Asano has got to be good!

Seen it. Not as radical as it promises. But interesting none-the-less.

i really like suicide club. it makes more sense when you know a bit about japan's suicide problem.
wouldn't the bbfc have a problem with it, being that the entire film is about suicide? i cant imagine it getting a release.

speaking of which, did anyone see 'no end'?
it contains a very detailed suicide scene, which the bbfc seem to have allowed simply because its an 'art film' by kieslowski on artificial eye. double standards all the way.

I doubt BBFC would have a problem with it.

I do black, the opening sequence may encourage young schoolgirls to do the same thing.
at least in the mad minds of the bbfc anyhow.

Don't be too sure. In their recent guidelines revision it was decided to take a harder line on any depictions of suicide. So if this film has any detailed depictions of acts of sucide, then I most certainly think the BBFC will have a problem with it. Hence the fairly inoffensive Rules of Attraction had the suicide scene trimmed by the BBFC and slapped with an 18 certificate.

This is what they say about the cuts to Rules of Attraction:

To obtain this category cuts of 1m 34s were required., some or all of these cuts were substitutions. The cuts were Compulsory.
A cut was required to a scene in which a teenage girl slits her wrists, on the grounds that the technique used is not widely known and is potentially more likely to result in death than the more common method, in line with the Video Recordings Act 1984, and BBFC Guidelines and Policy

i checked out the intro the other day and it isn't as bad as i expected. Relatively graphic as it is, it is all cgi which kind of lessens the impact. I doubt this would (well this scene at least, not seen the rest) trouble the bbfc at all.

    Re: Suicide Club

it's not a question of how graphic the scenes are, the very idea of teen group suicide would be enough to cause problems.

    Re: Suicide Club

It isn't exactly realistic though with all that cgi, which im sure the offending scene in rules of attraction is. The only way to find out is if someone tries to release it.
