Remember seeing this film on t.v. in my youth, the second time it seemed to be heavily cut. Any chance of an un-cut abuk release?

The box set from Carlton is very nice indeed. The only let down was on COUNTESS DRACULA, in some of the early scenes of the film, the colours look a bit oversaturated. But it's a minor complaint, the rest of the set is very good. And at only £14.99 for three discs from Play.com, I'm very happy.

can i second that, it also has a very nice 16x9 transfer and it is the original ratio as there is more info either side, also no one has mentioned one of Peter Cushings finest hors in the box set. Twins of evil, also sporting a very nice transfer as well. Only extras are trailers here.

Also if any one is interested one of Hammer's finest hors is also avilable, Hands of the ripper, bad news is that you also have to suffer two of the worst horro movies the Rank organisation ever made namely the uncanny and the monster aka I don't want to be born.

    Question Cut or not?!?

Can anybody let me know which of the current box sets of hammer titles have any cuts? Thanks in advance!

best place to check for cuts is the bbfc at www.bbfc.co.uk and search i know a lot of hammer films where cut in the uk for cinema and i think most video releases where from the same cut prints generally r1 does a nice uncut selection of hammer films

    More Hammer! More Horror!

On the midnite movies label in June comes 'Countess Dracula'/'The Vampire Lovers'. Both in original ratios with trailers and audio commentaries featuring Ingrid Pitt. I've also heard that they've sought out the uncut print of the latter. Probably be less than 15 quid on Play...

Yes, I'd planned on getting the Midnite Movies double feature DVD too.

As for Hammer cuts - it has to be remembered that these are very old films now and there was little foresight back then. Obviously some cut footage from these older films may never be recovered. I think it was fairly common practise to dispose of cut footage.

Hammer themselves retained full prints of some of them - which Anchor Bay USA have used as source materials. But as for the rest of the Hammer back catalogue - who knows what cut footage has still survived?

I'm always first in line for an uncut print on DVD - but realistically, this isn't always possible.

I haven't had time to check this site out fully, as regards cuts etc.. But you may find it a pretty cool resource..

    More Glamour! More Gore!

This could of been a nice site, but seems to be abandoned since last year. Some good articles but the filmography is brief and does not contain any mention of running times.
I was disappointed to find that the Warner 'Classic Hammer Collection' contained incomplete prints. Absolutely shameful way to treat them. I'm not sure if the second box contains Anchor Bay prints or not. Columbia's 'Revenge of Frankenstein' looked ok to me but thats uninformed. Carlton's releases look complete too. Guess we'll have to wait and see for the upcoming R2 'Frankenstein and the monster from hell'. I've already got Captain Kronos on a Spanish dvd but will get rid (you have to do this 'sans subtitles' dance which is annoying) plus there may be new audio commentaries.
Maybe there should be a Marcus Hearn guide to the best Hammer dvds. Or a Marc Morris one

Yes, on hindsight, after looking at the Hammer site, it a shoddy affair, well out of date. It pisses me off a bit actually that this site has not been kept up to date..... You'd think somebody gave a ****, but obviously nobody does..
    Shame..

I say, Play have this set on offer at a mere £9.99 at the moment. Simply not to be missed at that price, old beans!
