The Warriors (Walter Hill, 1979) (Merged)

At last what seems to be a decent version of Walter Hills The Warriors, due out this October. Would love to see a better version of Southern Comfort to go along with The Warriors. Seems strange these days but one second your thinking about what you would like to see on dvd & the next second it's released.

Yeah, lots of talk about this one the net - and there's even a tie in video game coming. Excellent stuff, and a must own.

I think The Warriors is a great film, would make a nice double-bill with Class Of 1984.

I wonder if this new director's cut will have the infamous pre-opening credit sequence where gang leader Cleon informs the rest of The Warriors that Swan will be the next "War Chief" if anything happens to him.

I still have the TV broadcasts on tape from several years back with this scene included. Hopefully i can get rid of this VHS if the sp. ed. DVD contains the above footage.

Maybe we'll also get to see the alternative segments shot for the TV version.

I personally think i'll just hang on a while and see if The Warriors:Ultimate Director's Cut shows up on R2. With it being a Paramount title it most probably will and this particular studio's U.K. DVDs are usually identical to their R1 editions so us Brits might just get the same package.

I seem to recall reading somewhere that the opening sequence mentioned above will be included.although it just repeats most of the dialouge thats already in the beginning of the film,it does include an appearence by cleon's girlfriend.

This is one of my top three favourite films ever, can't wait for this release, about time I can consign the poor original dvd to E-Bay hell.

I'm keeping my original disc, because this new DVD is a different cut of the film, and I don't know how it's going to play out. Either way, I think I want to hold on to the cut I already have.... so it'll be two discs for me.

I'm with Black on this one. It's always nice to have the film that was shown in the cinema as well as the Director's Cut.

However I have Natural Born Killers Director's cut over the original as there are just little snippets put back in that the MPAA cut out.

I think i'll be doing the same for now.
Once i'm convinced the sp. ed. makes the original DVD edit redundant then i'll consider dispensing with the standard edition.

I'm sure there is a R2 release for The Warriors UDC (check play), a couple of weeks after the R1 version. According to The Warriors web site it does indeed included the opening that the BBC Moviedrom series broadcasted.

Hopefully Southern Comfort MAY come out again in the UK in a decent version. The dvd is absolutely terrible.I too will keep my original of The Warriors along side the new cut.

I must have the R1 Southern Comfort or something. I don't remember it being terrific, but I certainly wouldn't describe it as "terrible" - what's wrong with the R2?

Re: The Warriors (Ultimate Director's Cut)

The idiotic and thankfully deleted "daylight opening" that destroys the structure of the film is the outtake present among the extras. The other deleted scenes - i.e. the ones that worked - have been reportedly reinserted into the film, making it the director's cut...

The UK Southern Comfort looks like a video transfer and is very grainy.I do not think it is widescreen either. It is at least uncut

Re: The Warriors (Ultimate Director's Cut)

The R1 release of Southern Comfort is widescreen 16:9, the picture qaulity of the dvd is way better than the Pan & Scan R2 version. The only thing that lets it down is the stereo sound, which is a bit low. but other than that i don't think there's another version as good.
