Are you going to buy it, Black?

Sorry, I just had to ask.

The Hammer and Val Lewton sets are my most anticipated releases this year. Those and Werewolves On Wheels, that is.

or even an uncut version of Dracula AD72 on either R1 or R2. The US "PG" version is missing one of the shots of the stake spewing up blood at the end (there should be two). Hopefully, warners will release an uncut print like they did with Taste the Blood.

I hope someone releases Satanic Rites soon, the AB disc is long OOP and selling for silly money. I think BU have the rights in the USA now, so it might be a while before they release it, since they will likely want to make it different enough to appeal to people who already own the AB disc.

Anyone know who owns the UK rights, because I wouldn't mind it, even if it was barebones from WB, its not really good enough to warrant buying an expensive special edition, and I just want to complete my set.

Only other hope is a German release, most of the Hammer films seem to be coming out over there, sometimes with uncut prints (see Frankenstein and the Monster from Hell).

Yes, the North American rights to the Hammer's formerly held by ABUS will be reverting back to Bill Lustig's ownership. Sadly, he has gone on record as saying that he has no plans to revisit these titles through Blue Underground.

I've heard bad things about DRACULA AD 1972 (still haven't seen it yet) but the question of me not buying doesn't arise. The fact that SATANIC RITES OF DRACULA is so damn good (despite people saying it isn't) is enough to swing me, and Stephanie Beacham looks so flippin sexy in all the photos I see anyway

I'd like to see a better verson of SATANIC RITES... too, as the non-anamorphic image of the AB R1 disc is starting to bug me compared to how good later releases look.

Dracula A.D. 72 isn't unwatchable. Its just an odd addition with the groovy vibe and all and it fails as a horror film.
Its regarded as one of the worst Hammer's by many, but I will still be getting it to replace my old tape.
I would also like a really good release of Satanic,as I have a R1 which isn't the Anchor Bay one and its a bit iffy.
In a clear hard case with an orange cover.can't remember off hand which version this is.

Satanic Rites is an excellent film, IMO. I agree - the ABUS print is ok, but we've come a long way since then. Be terrific to see a remastered anamorphic print.

AD72 isn't great ( though it does feature a great encounter between Cushing and Lee ) but I'll certainly be buying it, to complete the collection.

I saw Dracula AD 1972 a few days ago when looking at the list of DVDs coming out in the next few months on Play.com. Judging by the price of the DVD I don't think there will be many extras or any at all.

Any news of the "uncut" or "cut" status..? The rating is PG (previously cut) and I'm hoping that it's a re-rating... Still haven't received my copy/order (today is the release date) so it'd better be uncut

Btw, does anyone know the "exact" details of the cut? What happens in it and when... I've seen the tv-version and the old UK-VHS and can't remember any difference between them... In the end the Dracula's death was rather graphic to some detail, so I'm assuming that's where it got cut from...

I'll compare the versions asap when I get my copy.

I'm not 100% sure if I can post the link but when I visited for the first time today there was a new news article which wasn't there yesterday for Dracula A.D. 1972. Just a trailer as an extra. I like the cover artwork. I don't know if it's the original film poster artwork but it's interesting. A poster gave it a negative comment on the site's board. It's got a 60s style to it.

    dracula ad 72

I wanted this to arrive last friday

or even on monday halloween night but it was not to be.

So tonight i have just finished watching the great dracula ad 72.

For those of you who are used to the dog eared warners releases or the awful print shown on tv be prepared for a suprise in some aspects.

For those of us who have never seen the story, basically dracula gets bumped off in London 1872 and then is resurrected in 1972, groovy man. He stands around in a church whilst hip kids are brought to him on a platter from his dispile and that kids reward is to be made a vampire, yes Dracula does blokes as well. Van helsing is on hand though to save both the day and the daughter and that is pretty much it.

I love this film so it was with little hope that i approached the disc, though with the opening seconds i had feeling that this was going to be good, the reason, those of you who have seen the movie will know that the warner brothers icon is launched with a short except of james bernards dracula movie, regrettably this has been replaced with the new warners ident, but the musics still there, very sad but such a nice touch. And so it launches, the picture will amaze you as it is now very crisp and clean, the opening is much lighter than the video version but it means there is a lot of detail that you can now see. Its been letterboxed to 1:78 so you do lose some detail top and bottom , but some of the shots are wonderfully framed, just watch and you will see what i mean.

The sound is single channel mono, and here it really does fall flat as at stages the sound does go very quiet, which is annoying. See the scene where van helsing is interviewed at home by murray and you will hear what i mean.

Also included is a trailer, ooh dear, can see why this was a bit of a flop at the time if this was what they sold it on.

Finally it may be my imagination but i think there are one or two extra scenes in it, for example draculas staking at the end you have two shots where the stake is going through him not one, i may be worng but overall and despite the slightly dodgy sound this is a disc that is well worth the money and completes the true hammer dracula collection in fine style.

    Re: dracula ad 72

Jesus, would it have killed them to include the behind-the-scenes featurette that has been in the public domain for God knows how long? Even bootlegs of Dracula AD1972 on ebay have got two trailers AND this featurette.

Now, if only somebody would release a decent anamorphic widescreen copy of The Satanic Rites Of Dracula....
