    Dracula A.D. 1972 (Alan Gibson, 1972) (Merged)

DVD times is reporting this for R1:

"Warner Home Video have announced the Region 1 DVD release of several horror titles from their back catalogue on 4th October 2005. Priced at $19.97 SRP each are...

    Dracula A.D. 1972
Dracula is raised into the modern era in this Hammer Studios shocker in which Christopher Lee dons the cape for the sixth time and seeks out fresh victims. As arch nemesis Van Helsing, fellow horror legend Peter Cushing clutches a vial of holy water and edges within throwing distance. Their harrowing battle royale is not to be missed. In fact, it's the living end.

    Demon Seed
Julie Christie plays Susan in this taut techno-thriller based on the Dean Koontz novel. Packed with suspense, surprise and special effects, Demon Seed follows Susan's desperate attempts to outmanoeuvre and outthink her captor. Then Susan learns what Proteus wants: its own child, conceived in her womb and destined for domination.

    Night of the Lepus
A hormone intended to alter the breeding cycle of rabbits overrunning ranch lands instead turns them into flesh-eating, 150-pound monsters in Night of the Lepus. Stuart Whitman, Janet Leigh, Rory Calhoun and DeForest Kelley are among the intrepid humans facing the behemoth bunnies. They use guns, flames and dynamite to subtract them. But the rampaging rabbits know how to multiply. Can anything stop these hare-y scary monsters?

    Private Parts (1972)
Check out who's checked in at the musty old King Edward Hotel in a seedy section of L.A.: Cheryl, a runaway teen who hopes to piece her life together. Little does she know that someone at the hotel has a nasty little penchant for chopping people into pieces. Welcome, happy campers, to one of the screen's most bizarre works of camp filmmaking.

    A Stranger Is Watching
They don't see him, but he's there. A stranger is watching, plotting, planning, and anticipating every move they make. Then he strikes. He imprisons a little girl and a famous reporter in the dank maze of tunnels beneath New York's Grand Central Station. The kidnapper is a remorseless psychopath who wants to collect a ransom, then murder his captives. His victims' only hope is their own wits - and the aid of the dazed and desperate homeless people who roam this urban netherworld. Kate Mulgrew is heartrendingly believable as the reporter and Rip Torn gives a harrowing performance as the kidnapper in this nightmarish shocker based on the Mary Higgins Clark suspense novel and directed by Sean S. Cunningham (Friday the 13th)."

You'll love Private Parts Black! I think Marc suggested it wouldn't get through the BBFC these days so get that R1 man!

Never seen the stranger film, but Demon Seed I thought was pants and Night of the Lepus is good for a laugh but I'll wait for it in the sales..

DEMON SEED - yes! that's the pick of the buch, as far as I'm concerned!

A Stranger Is Watching is a TV movie, if I remember rightly - MGM issued a pre-cert tape, back in the day..

Private Parts was Paul Bartel's debut feature - anyone who hasn't seen his 80s comedy Eating Raoul should check that out too. I have Private Parts on tape from cable from years ago (Sky I think). It's a shame Bartel is no longer around to do an audio commentary, I'm sure he'd have been very entertaining.

A Stranger Is Watching isn't a TV movie (although the bland title sounds like one). I didn't think it was a great film when I saw it but Rip Torn is always worth a look. And my memory might be playing tricks on me...

I think that's due late 2006, early 2007, to coincide with the film's (gulp) 25th anniversary.

    DRACULA A.D. 1972: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH!

    NIGHT OF THE LEPUS: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH!

    HOORAY!!!

My Hammer Dracula set will finally be complete and having the final nail in the coffin is a huge welcome. Being the campest Dracula film made by Hammer it's a strange addition to the franchise but for novelty and entertainment value it's a thumbs up from me. Can't wait!!!

Night of the Lepus is a film I've been after for a while now which I have never seen so very much looking forward to this. Supposedly atrocious I don't care. I wanna be scared by the bunnies!!!

    Any signs of Trog yet?

It is brilliant Black (depending how you look at it) and 100% fun most definitely. I have the old Warner release and every time I fancy an unstimulating piece of entertainment then Trog does it for me. The badness is what makes the film an absolute classic. And what a cast!!!

What's Alan Gibson up to now anyway? Also was it him who directed that one about the twins with Judy Geeson?

It's been out for years courtesy of Anchor Bay USA. Admittedly it's not a great transfer, but it is uncut and certainly more than watchable.

None of the usual suppliers I use seem to stock it and Amazon say it's a special order (1 or 2 months!).

Any idea where I can get it from?

And how do people rate "not a good transfer" - the version I have (on a two disc with Deep Red) looks like it was captured from a VHS from the mid 80s.

It's better than a VHS copy. We've grown accumstomed to pristine works these days, Satanic Rights isn't pristine, it's merely good. I have the disc, and it's good enough.

Drac 72 and SROD are very underrated in my opinion. Hammer was churning out the same old stuff before these two films came along. Although Drac 72 seems their most "dated" film ever it still has a decent storyline. Especially the name Johnny Alucard !!!
