There is no chance of that ever happening, is there? (Licensing them for special editions, that is...)

I would love a Fright Night 2 DVD. I have the R1 DVD and it has to be the worst DVD transfer in history. The quality is worse than a third grade bootleg VCD. (And its 4:3). This is just too good of a film for a shoddy release like that!.
But the Region 2 UK Fright Night part 1 is of very good quality you should check it out if you dont have it. Has both 5.1 Sound + Anamorphic Widescreen.
Columbia's UK R2 of Fright Night is very good indeed, what it lacks in features it makes up in audio and video quality.
I avoided buying part 2 as it has really bad cover art and is fullscreen. I saw the box the other day though and it said on the back that that was the format in which the film was shot.
Is that true? Since Part 1 is in gorgeous 2.35:1, I always presumed that part 2 was also shot wide.
According to IMDB.com the movie is 1:2.35 ratio.

The R1 Artisan Disk is truly awful the worst i have ever seen a DVD, and from quite a few reviews i have read about the disk the reviewers have said it is a zoomed in 2.35 ratio and that is how it is so bad.
I would truly adore seeing this movie in an amamorphic 2.35 ratio with a 5.1 soundtrack (or even better full bitrate DTS 6.1, but i guess thats what dreams are made of!). This was one of my favourite movies and i watched it at least once a week for years.
Who holds the rights for the UK release, as if Anchor Bay released this in the UK with the specs i mentioned i would respect them immensly for this. Extras wouldnt mind too much
Fright Night II is most definitely scope, as the R1 DVD is framed at 2.35 through the credits. It's shocking that a company such as Artisan would have released this fullscreen. You expect this lack of care and attention from smaller companies, but Artisan really should have known better.
As for who owns the UK rights, well that's probably a question for Marc. The film was released here by Fox (under its short-lived President Home Entertainment imprint) back in late 1989, and later on sell-thru under the CBS/Fox banner. Do Fox still hold the UK rights? IMO, it's unlikely, as many of their acquisitions from the late 80s (i.e. Dead Ringers, Manhunter, etc) now belong to other companies.
If Fright Night II is available for the UK market, it would be an excellent title for AB to pick up. Then again, a company such as Momentum Pictures may already own the rights...
I had a feeling Fright Night 2 was 2.35:1, Artisan are rather like Lion's Gate in that they can't be trusted to do right by their releases, they put out Sleepless in an awful fullscreen version too after all.
Hey, if ABUK can get the rights and put out Fright Night Part 2 in widescreen I'd buy it for sure.

Yes, I remember thinking at the time that all those who predicted nice new re-releases of previously badly handled Artisan titles were being misguidedly optimistic.
They;ve got a real problem with unrated material too.Originally Posted by the13thman

I'd get a dual Fright Night pack (correct aspect ratios, etc.) - two of the better 80's American Horror movies.
Don't think a two pack would be possible though - the first is owned by Sony/Columbia![]()
I see what you mean. Well a 'proper' release for the second one would suffice I suppose then. Believe it or not I never bought the first one on disc because I saw them pretty much as equals, and only wanted them both or nothing. How spoilt are we these days!?!
The second film is certainly worthy, though I do prefer the original.
I prefer the original too, but you still have Roddy McDowall and William Ragsdale in the sequel, and Julie Carmen is more than adequate as replacement for Chris Sarandon. Love to see it in widescreen too, I only have a version taped from the TV.
Does anyone know who has the rights for Fright Night 2 in the UK, As i think i might email them to enquire about a UK release. As i really am sick of the god awful Artisan R1 release i have.
It is the worst DVD transfer i have ever saw.
You obviously aint seen UK discs of The Terror/The Haunting (Jack Nicholson)!
me to i would really like to see fright night 2 on dvd with a really good transfer![]()
I've no idea - it was issued by Fox in the late 80s but the film was made by TriStar Pictures. Many other films (including Peggy Sue Got Married and Gardens Of Stone) that were made by TriStar but released by Fox in the UK are now owned by Sony (formerly Columbia/TriStar), so that maybe a good place to start.Originally Posted by Anthony1uk

Hi Krister - welcome to the sweet slivers of insanity that are the Anchor Bay Forums!
Yeah, we'd like to see it released on DVD in anamorphic widescreen - the cinematography was something special, something that could only be appreciated when see in it's proper aspect ratio.
It's also nice because it features Merrit Butrick in one of his final screen appearances before his demise at a tragically young age.
