    Exclamation SAW - Uncut?

The Region 1 copy is R-Rated (which was censored to achieve this certificate) and yet the new Region 2 disc supports an "UNCUT" label across the top of the sleeve.

    What's going on?

Does this mean we Brits are getting a longer cut?

Apparently, as I've said before, the original submission to the MPAA garnered it an NC-17. So the filmmakers re-edited the film to tone it down for an R rating.

Now, the strange thing with the film (I've been doing a little research) is that it's not really the length of the film that is the issue (even though the unrated version is slightly longer). Apparently, the filmmakers changed the colour timing of some of the scenes in order to reduce their impact. It all sounds very strange, but this is what they did to get it an R rating, apparently.

I have not looked into it yet. However, I have seen comments from some people on other forums stating that they were upset that the R1 release was indeed inferior to the R2. As I say, I've not looked into it myself. The speculation was that the US would get the "better" version when Saw 2 hits.

EIV are putting out the 8 second longer "uncut" version without the commentary track, which will go on their "rated" version instead.

I predicted a while ago that instead of releasing one uncut version with all the features on it they'd split them into two releases hoping that fans would buy both, the greedy b*stards. And I was right.

It's not like you can't put the commentary track on the uncut version because of the extra 8 seconds, I hope other companies don't follow this example, it clearly demonstrates contempt for the consumer and should be strongly discouraged.

At least the RRPs appear the same this time, thats something. I'll be buying it in the sales anyway (EIV stuff always ends up discounted after a couple of months) - no way do I want to reward EIV's greed by paying full price.
