    Brief note on Dvd Pacific

just got a package delivered this morning - the total value had been handwritten on the side [+ $50]. There was no extra charge this time, but it looks like they are complying with customs.

I've had one parcel since all this hoo-har began and there were no problems. I'm currently expecting another so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Sorry, what's the value that can cause a charge and how is the charge calculated, if anyone knows?

It's calculated in a right bastard way.

If the 'Value' of the item in the package in less than £18 (not including postage) then it goes straight through.

If the 'Value' is a little bit more than £18 then they take the 'Value' & The 'Postage' add them together then charge you 17.5% of that, THEN Parcel Force charge you an £8 flat fee (usually more than the VAT) for paying the VAT and collecting the money from you, I mean they have to go all out of their way don't they, I mean it's not like they were going to your ****ING HOUSE ANYWAY!!

I've never had any of these problems!!

I received a package from them last week...4 Films (5 dvds) with no extra charges and they hand wrote <10.00 on the side stamp!

The only thing I notice is that they never send any more than 5 discs, which always means that they have sent me 1 seperate (even though it was in stock) a week later thus my postage charge is slightly more, but other than that...NO PROBLEMOS!

I think just keep your orders small and pay the extra postage (only ends up being a few quid anyway) and you shouldn't have any problems.

I was only wondering before ordering the Monster Collection.

It is funny though that I ordered one dvd shipment as surface and one by air-mail. the airmail shipped about a week before the surface one, but the surface one arrived first, so maybe it's better to use the (cheaper) surface type of postage.

Here's a tip: Send an e-mail to DVDPacific. I'm sure if you ask them, they'll help you out with the customs vaue.

They'll just reply that they can't. I don't think they ever admitted to underpricing their declarations.

But Zanner, at that price it'll probably still be cheaper than Play even if customs get their hands on it. And remember, customs are very busy searching for genuine threats to the country, so there's a very good chance it will get through unscathed anyway.

I e-mailed them when I ordered the Battlestar Galactica box set (which is huge) and they marked the value as $20 dollars for me.

I bought my 5.1 amp about 5 years ago and that has AC3 stamped on the front of it. All the Laserdiscs that I bought at that time such as the Star Wars Special Editions have AC3 on the sleeves.

I think quite a few DVD's were released as having AC3 soundtracks before they changed the name to Dolby Digital.

Slipping off on a bit of a tangent but still, fairly, relevant. How long, on average, does it take DVDP to fullfill back orders for OOS items? I ordered Spider Baby a couple of weeks ago, (it was showing instock when I ordered it), but it didn't ship with the rest of the order. My account now shows it on back order. I find it hard to believe it's taking so long for them to get hold of this title...
