Killer's Moon (Alan Birkinshaw, 1978) (Merged)

How about Killer's Moon - four maniacs on the loose in the lake district that JUST HAPPENS TO BE filled with nice girls.

Awful film, absolutely awful, but so funny...

It would most likely pass uncut nowadays with no problem.

    I was hoping for a R1 release...

I just recently got rid on an original PreVRA copy. It was virtually unplayable.

My tape too is in a fine condition, love it, very funny tongue-in-cheek rape/slasher film and you don't find many of those. Kind of Carry On meets I Spit on your Grave meets A Clockwork Orange.

I guess the BBFC would ask for cuts, darn them. Have to wait for a foreign release, or for rules at the BBFC to change

This I've gotta see so it's not on dvd anywhere by the sound of it, or vhs , apart from the old pre-cert...

    Time to check e-bay methinks.

Also, check out the description at the imdb, this is some sort of classic !

    http://uk.imdb.com/title/tt0077801/

And then I also noticed this on the imdb -

"For his second film Killer's Moon (1978), Birkinshaw experimented with the horror film format while clearly still wearing his sex film director's hat. The end result is largely considered the British Horror Film's most distasteful and unintentionally funny hour. As well as being anonymously co-written by The Life and Loves of a She Devil author Fay Weldon (who is Birkinshaw's sister), Killer's Moon is also notable for its John Lindsay-type fixation for casting secondary starlets as schoolgirls."

All I can say is Wow.

You mean you didn't see this on the big screen at the last FAB Film Festival? It was even introduced by Birkinshaw!

Yes. it's all true! What's also funny is that all the scenes set it the tent - with the really bad painted backdrop of the Lake District, and the three-legged dog - were filmed over the road from where I live, on Barnes Common, London!

If you didn't notice the backdrop, take another look - it's so obvious, you can see the bottom of it.

Again, wow ! So there must be at least one good print around. I bet Birkinshaw would do a commentary too, if he's fine with introducing screenings.. This is really crying out for a DVD release, even if on R1.

A Region 1 release is actually scheduled (through Image), although I'm no longer sure if it'll happen. I have emailed my contact there, I'll keep you all posted.

    In the meantime...

    Yep, shame it's cut though

(missing brief post-credits bit that was in the theatrical version)

Will the DVD release restore this?

    Killers moon

Going along with the Brit horror topics does anyone remember Killers Moon? I believe it was directed by Alan Birkinshaw (I could be wrong though!) and tells the story of a busload of schoolgirls being terrorized by a group of escaped lunatics, very slezy stuff..this one definately deserves to see the light of day once more.

it got shown at the Fabpress fest launch for 'ten years of terror' introduced by alan birkinshaw, who basically apologised for the entire film. Redemption had it on their list of dvds coming soon; about two years ago.
