It's great Euro-Trash fun, but there's no definitive DVD release as of yet.

I said there was no definitive DVD release - that one is dire. Both the Alpha and Sinema Diable discs are disappointing.

I have the Alpha DVD of this title which I bought for peanuts. I've not watched it yet but I'll try and make the effort tonight and report back later...

I wanted this one myself (the Eclectic disc), as it was reportedly 'digitally remastered' and all that before it's release. Every review I've looked at expresses disappointment about the image so I'm waiting around. At least it's in a rough OAR I suppose.

Sorry, Marc, I didn't realise what you meant by definitive. Oops!

I watched this, finally. The Alpha version is obviously made up from two prints (both full frame). The manjority of the film looks OK but every time there is a nude/sex scene the coulours fade and the film is squeezed so everyone looks thinner and taller. It's just about watchable but the 4:3 ratio is wrong. IMDB says the film should be in 2.35 : 1 which may be correct. We get many two-handed scenes where both actors are just about in shot on opposite sides of the screen. The print is also overly dark with one key scene in a graveyard being almost totally obscured.

The story is very weird and quite fun. Ostensibly set in the UK the film looks like it was shot in Italy and has the usual dubbing faults (although many of the actors are obviously speaking English). I'm sure Marc has watched this print and will be able to inform us if anything has been cut. IMDB lists a running time of 103 mins and this print clocks in at 96, but we all know how wrong IMDB can be.

Finally how can anybody resist a film which has a forty-ish year old wheelchair-bound woman with the wonderful P.G. Wodehouse name of Aunt Agatha and a young lead called Gladys.

I paid £2.23 for this from DVD Pacific (but order it with other cheapies to save on postage costs), a bargain...I think!

I've heard rumours that Image are planning to release this. Let's hope so!

That's great news if Image have got the film in mind.

To be honest I saw both discs on Pacific - the Alpha and Eclectic releases for around £3 and £5 respectively. Yes, they're bargains but I'd really rather pay a little more and get a decent presentation, you know what I mean? Then again, I suppose those cheapo discs are okay for getting a feel for whether you like a film and would want to shell out more for a proper release of it.

I have the Alpha release. Wooo Weee, it stinks. It's passable enough to let me know that I'd upgrade if a decent version every materialized, but that's about it. Is it worth the pennies they ask for it? To be honest, no. Wait. You'll be glad you did.

It is a strange little film, though. I too heard someone (can't remember who) is reissuing this in the US. That's great news for those who are waiting.

Image are rumoured to have licensed US rights, although I'm unsure why they still haven't released it.

When Redemption we were going to release this movie in the UK, back when I worked for them, there was only a full-screen master available, and a new transfer from the 2P negs would have cost a small fortune. It just wouldn't have recouped the investment here in the UK, so it was dropped. A real pity..

What a pity that business must always get in the art. Well, I guess you could call this movie art

Thanks for your reply Marc, it's great to get the REAL inside scoop on this stuff.

This has since been released uncut by NoShame in the US, as part of their 'Killer Queen' box set, along with RED QUEEN KILLS SEVEN TIMES.

I have one of those R1 box sets with about 12 films for 25c or something like that which included this title. I was not overly impressed with it but the quality of the print left a lot to be desired. Not a classic imo.

That's the cut version. I'm not surprised you weren't impressed.

Re: The Night Evelyn Came Out Of The Grave

I have the German DVD (the "X Rated label) which is uncut but:

    (a) not the right 1:2.35 ratio (its in about 1:1.85)

    (b) some of the English language soundtrack is missing from a few scenes so the English language version just resorts to background music (even when characters are talking to each other). I have O level German so when I changed to the German track in those scenes I could kinda make out the gist of the dialogue I was missing.
