I also enjoyed Dead And Buried, but I much prefer Carpenter's The Fog.I'm going to pick up the Momentum disc when it comes down in price,I believe its more or less the same as the MGM R1 release.Dead And Buried is a much gorier movie though and has the added appeal of once being on the video nasties list.
Cool![]()
Am convinced more & more that this movie is worth checking out !!
Only Ģ7.99 HERE at the moment, think I'll get a copy myself!
Got a synthetic face, got some scars and a brace, my hands are rough and bloody....
I previously had the Dragon release of DAB, and it was awful. So when ABUK brought it out, I had to get it. Great film. Great disc... and so is Evilspeak 2 discer.
I think that enough grovelling for now... Do I get a fre disc for that, Marc?!! Or put quotes on the site like Vi**o do?!!... Can I get a badge now?!

I've just got Evilspeak, which I've never seen. I look forward to watching it. The Dragon DAB wasn't great but they're a good firm and have put out some nice bits, like the integral version of Phenomena and Door Into Darkness, so don't be too harsh on them, Cat!Originally posted by Il Cattivo

What I do find curious about Dragon is they changed their name to Raptor for a while. What was that all about?
Dunno mate. Probably something legal? Either that or they were looking for a cool dinosaur name for an offshoot?!...
Pterydiscs, anyone?!...

STORY...
A young photographer takes a trip to a seaside village to relax and takes some snaps on the beach. Here, he comes accross a pretty-looking blonde girl, who volunteers to pose for some shots and soon makes a sexual advance on 'Freddy' (as she has decided to call him).
All of a sudden, however, he is ambushed, beaten to within an inch of his life and tied up. Gasoline is poured over him and he is set alight. The next time we see him, his charred 'remains' lie in his supposedly crashed van and police are examining the scene. A loud roar signifies, however, that he is still alive - just about.
So it is up to the local sheriff, with the help of a rather bizarre mortician, to find out exactly what has happened to him, and whether or not he actually died while in the vehicle. This, unfortunately, isn't the end of it, and more people are brutally murdered soon after. Even more strange again is the fact that 'Freddy' is spotted alive and well, working at the local gas station, in fact. His empty grave confirms that something very wierd is going on in the once quiet village of Potters Bluff...
THOUGHTS...
LET me start by saying that if you're expecting a bloodbath - you're looking in the wrong place. If, however, you're seeking a good creepy, well-written story with some decent acting (yes, IN A VIDEO NASTY!!), then this is the film for you! The camera work and special effects are magnificent and a testament to the great job done by cinematographer Steve Poster, director Gary Sherman and effects man Stan Winston on their fairly small $3m budget.
I would have liked to have seen Sherman's original version of the film - the director's cut - but, unfortunately, all prints have long since been destroyed.
Apparently, the third - yes THIRD - distributing company to oversee the film's production were unhappy at the lack of blood and guts, and forced the director (or gave him the option of having someone else tamper with his film) to add in several scenes and cut large chunks of his work from the final cut. The effects in one particularly fake-looking scene were not done by Winston, who at this stage was working on another film.
All in all however, they could taint but not destroy what is still a great film.
RATING: 8.5/10
DVD RATING:
[Distributor: Anchor Bay Entertainment UK]
Menus: 7/10
Video: 6/10
Audio: 7/10
Extras: 10/10
Overall: I was a little disappointed with the audio and picture quality (especially the latter), but there is an EXCELLENT set of extra features... 8/10
Damn Anchor Bay making me spend my hard earned cash on one quality release after another!
Well, while the picture quality isn`t pristine clear, it`s still better than on the Scandinavian Scanbox DVD (whre the "fade to black/cracking sound" during the murder of the hitchhiker is also missing) and if we just could get all "Nasties" re-released in such jam-packed special editions, it would be a dream come true (I`d LOVE to see a similar packed quality release of "Absurd", but....we still can dream, can we?)
Yeah, I'd like to know more about Sherman's original cut, which apparently leant more towards black comedy (and may, therefore, have somewhat resembled his classic DEATH LINE).
It's a damn shame that it's been lost to time and the elements, since I personally feel that the remaining cut is almost, but not quite, a very good movie. Does anyone have more details on the original intentions for the film?
As far as I recall Sherman`s audio commentary, you nailed it already well: the movie was supposed to lean more towards black comedy. The gore was less. The order of events was changed (that`s why the hitchhiker can now be spotted during an earlier attack, while she still hasn`t been "turned" in the available cut) The added killing of the doctor is rather pointless - Iīm not going too deep into this here, but it doesn`t make sense since he`s a local

I saw the AB disc of Dead and Buried going cheap (5.99) at the local market at the weekend. I didn't buy it as I have the German Dragon disc and wanted to check out current prices on the net. However, would anyone say it is worth repurchasing for the extras on the disc?
first and foremost, the transfer on the ABUK (or BU release, for that matter) p*sses on the Sragon version from a great height and it's woth upgrading on the strength of this alone. Extras are always welcome and those included and very worthy. Ģ5.99 is a steal. Get it![]()
Could anybody tell me if the ABUK release is a direct port from the BU R1 dvd? I have the BU 2-disc release and have to say the transfer is dodgy at best (That isnt a slight on the dvd as I believe this is probably the best it can look given the source materials and the way Sherman shot the thing). There seems to be a lot of praise for the ABUK transfer, is it actually a better print or is this appaluse more a commendation for 'polishing a turd' so to speak and getting it to look reasonable (if still highly flawed)?
I have the BU disc and it's streets ahead of the Dragon release I had previously bought.Originally Posted by Marty Moose
