I am banned again from the precert forum. I must be the biggest threat to free speech and democracy since osama bin laden. I dared reveal the story of President Video and the part the mini majors collapse in the 1980s contributed to the label. Fuck that forum can appear to be so retarded

My initial ban as VHSMan was because i subverted topics in the pursuit of humor and debate. I bid 50 pence for the odd video and questioned the value and the alleged scarcity of titles like the Evil Dead which sold over 30,000 units and the 6,000 plus that the Texas Chainsaw Massacre sold in their day. I also suggested that the people calling me all kinds of obscene things and threatening to shoot me dead in the chatbox should find some other pursuit with animals (in true Island of Death fashion).

There are hundreds of thousands of words typed everyday on the subject of a hundred titles , and virtually nothing about the world of home video and its impact on the viewing habits of people. The average person wanting to relive the thrill of first VCR they owned and realising they did not have to visit the cinema to see Sophies Choice for example instead they could have joined a video club and rented it 9 months later is barely covered. Look at any of the rental charts of the period Horror was less popular than porn and it was the Cannonball Run and Island At Th Top of The World wetting peoples whistles. The precert forum does not reflect the true nature of that era. Instead its wow Celestine is worth £1500, because the very shit film was not purchased by many libraries on release. Very little about how the nation went from a few hundred thousand VCRs in 1979 to millions by 1984, the video nasty drivel served a tiny fraction of the impact on how video changed society.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of very 'precious' people on some of these forums who don't like it when someone appears who isn't conservative and plains against the grain. In the past, I have dared to question the popularity of Suspiria, which caused me to have my very soul ripped from my body and burnt on a very large pyre.

I totally agree with you that when VHS first came out, porn was more popular than horror, because it reaches a greater number of people than horror. Also, you couldn't readily rent porn before the early '80's. I also agree that some of these 'rare' pre-certs are total garbage that will never ever be released on another format. But, you have the 'precious' few who stroke these things lovingly and then pump the price up artificially.

I cannot vouch for your conduct over on the PreCert forum because I've never been a member of that forum. I love horror and sci-fi on my own terms and there are films that I hate that apparently make me abnormal, so I definitely wouldn't fit in there.

I take it you dared to diminish the effect the video nasty debacle had on society? As far as I'm concerned, most of the films on that list are absolute tosh and all it really achieved was getting things banned.

nixon is now gone from pre-cert without even typing a word. Sometimes the admin/moderators on that site resemble the Stasi actively looking up peoples ISP numbers.

I have typed a pleasant email asking can they lift my permanent ban, and so far no reply. I can't understand why other members who get banned are allowed back, but I am not. 99% of the time all i do is read archived posts and collating information for a project i am undertaking.

I was double logged on here and pre-cert at the same time yesterday, and that could falsely lead me to the conclusion one person who operates on both sites put two and two together and banned me. Hopefully that person will man up and memo the reason for their snidey behaviour and why they had to check my name after nearly two months of harmless activity.

Jayzus,There was an amnesty for all banned members on there to come back,the only members that were not allowed back ever were those who have ripped off members either financial or by other means,the chances of yourself ever being allowed back is zero even if you email them to death.

The amnesty is very selective though.

My trading record is impeccable I only ever had two transactions on pre-cert one was to sell a BBC VHS featuring Madhur Jaffrey cooking, I sent the tape before I received the payment. The other transaction was to buy some copies of Video Today, that time i sent of the money before I received the goods. My ebay account also has a 100% rating.

Have you had any comeback from the mods/admins at all ? A reason you were banned in the first place ?

I was originally banned as VHSMan for telling Karamurat to go back to fucking his animals. I also made the mistake of leaving comments in sale threads, asking why such and such a tape was worth so much, would someone else selling a similar tape devalue the current price for the previous tape etc.
