UK: The Return of the Living Dead comes to Blu-ray & DVD

On 4 June 2012 Second Sight will issue Dan O'Bannon's Return of the Living Dead on Blu-ray and a special two disc DVD set.

The dead have risen and they need 'BRAINS!' Dan O'Bannon's cult splatterfest is one of the definitive zombie movies and one of the classic horrors of the 80's.

Blundering medical supplies warehouse workers Frank and his young trainee Freddy unwittingly unleash a mysterious U.S. military chemical that brings the dead back to life. And they've got a real hunger for human brains! Enlisting the help of the local crematorium they set off a chain of events that could lead to the end of civilisation.

Can they defeat the growing army of ravenous zombies? 'How do you kill something that's already dead?' It's not a bad question Burt!

I've only got the older MGM R1 double-sided DVD release.I'll definitely be picking up the Blu-ray as ROTLD is one of my favourite 80s horrors.

I'm feeling old. I remember going to see this at "Unit 4 cinema" in Brierfield (Near Burnley) when it first came out. A bit naughty, as well, as the girl on the counter let me in even though she knew I was under 18. I've not seen it since, even thought I have an old DVD of it (Unwatched, like many DVDs I've bought, due to lack of time!). I enjoyed it thoroughly at the time - a refreshing take on the zombie story, with some great characters...

Could be tempted by the blu-ray... Then I can have that in my 'to watch' pile (Which is ten years old now:-))

It's funny, I didn't associate Dan O Bannon with the zombie genre, but it's sometimes what you can get made, isn't it, was it the peak of the 80s Zombie boom, I wonder?

I know him best from his early student work with Carpenter on Dark Star, as well as a special ed of Dead and Buried, and Alien of course.

Very sad when he passed away, too young by half. A great loss to cinema, SF and ideas in cinema.
