    DVD Pacific closes its doors?

Anybody visiting dvdpacific over the past few weeks will have been greeted by the following notice:

    Notification From DVD Pacific

All customers please be advised that we are currently closed while undergoing some restructuring and updating.

This is expected to last for approximately the next 48 hours at which time the site will be reopened and re-launched with some exciting changes and improvements.

    Please stand-by!
I've been searching for information as to what is happening there and it seems the original owners have sold the company, and that the store will be opening again at some point as new titles are still being added to their inventory, even though they can't be ordered.

If anybody hears any concrete news please keep us posted.

Yes, a little worrying, especially as the 48 hours timeframe passed a couple or so weeks ago.

I'm sure some people remember when Pacific went through a little blip at the end of 2008 when deliveries were taking weeks to arrive but this all got sorted - and fingers crossed this current "restructure" will soon be sorted and the site will be fully functioning again.

It would be a crying shame if they did disappear as they really are one of the best/most reliable Region 1 dvd sources around.

Re: DVD Pacific closes its doors?

This is the email that is circulating on other forums regarding DVD Pacific:

    DVD Pacific Closure Announcement

    Dear Customers,

Today is a sad day as I announce to you that we are going to cease trading. After successfully running DVD Pacific for the past 16 years we have decided to close our operations. The current market conditions, declining overall business and my present health issues have impacted us greatly and led to this very difficult decision.

To you, our commercial customer base, we understand the difficulties you face in not having product in a timely manner and have taken steps to assist you with continuous uninterrupted supply of product as we commence our winding down. Effective immediately we have transferred all of your contact information through to Alliance Entertainment. Alliance has been our primary supply chain partner for almost 10 years now and we feel very comfortable and confident that they will be more than capable of servicing all your DVD and CD needs.

Kathie will be available during this transition phase to ensure everything is managed as smoothly as possible and she will be liaising with you and Alliance to handle any issues should they arise. You may be concerned about pricing issues etc and at this time it is our understanding that Alliance will be able to offer you pricing comparable to or possibly better than you received from DVD Pacific but I am sure a representative from Alliance once assigned to your account will be able to supply you with all of this pertinent information.

Current filled items will be split off and shipped and backorders will be cancelled and need to be submitted under new account. Should you not wish the filled items to be shipped please let us know as soon as possible and should any customer require a list of their backorders Kathie would be more than happy to help and can be reached at kath@dvdpacific.com. We also expect there will be many questions and will be more than happy to help in any way we can and urge you to ask as we are here to help.

We wish to thank you for your support to date as many of you have been with us for a substantial time and truly been a pleasure to work with. We trust your businesses continue to prosper and your new partnership with Alliance if you choose to go that route as I recommend is profitable and successful. Please expect a follow up e-mail and introduction from Alliance shortly.

    Your sincerely,

    Brad Searle

Re: DVD Pacific closes its doors?

The mail that it refers to is miss leading.

    DVD Pacific is NOT closing.

The shop has been 2 parts, one for costumers like us, and one for other buisnesses. It's the later part who is closing. So other shops can't buy from DVD Pacific any more, thus the mail refers to Allience Entertainment.

The reason for the long wait, it that they not only is shutting down the over-mentioned part of them, but they are also moving their storage from one part of the country to another, and redesigning the site. It takes a little longer then they must have expected.

It all gets explained at the second page in this tread

I got fed up of waiting, and cancelled my sole o/s order ("Make Way for Tomorrow", o/s since 2/2/2010).

You would think they would at least update the message on their front page that's been there for weeks now. 48 hours will soon turn into 48 days!

I'm hopefully they will indeed be re-opening as there are lots of new upcoming titles being added to their database.

Hadn't noticed, but that's a good sign. I placed my orders at Axel Music instead this month. They are a lot more expensive, but a nice voucher for free shipping evened things out. Hope Pacific will be back next month.

On a related note, Boulevardmovies has been down for several days. It's not looking promising there either.

They are back up. However, it seems as if there is no longer access to your account or wish list. Some prices have gone slightly up, others slightly down.

Re: DVD Pacific closes its doors?

I'm heartened to see that DVD Pacific are back up and running as they are always a class act with generally fast delivery and excellent customer service. They were once my retailer of choice when it came to US DVD product, however over the last couple of years I've found that they are usually undercut slightly in terms of price by a couple of equally efficient sellers operating through Amazon UK Marketplace such as All Your Music, Supermart USA and Moviemars. Therefore as I have to watch my spending these days I've progressively been using them less and less.

Yep, its finally back - albeit somewhat different from before......and unless i'm missing it, no Adult section now? Shame as they were a great source for classic 70's adult flicks.

Only ever had one problem with DVD Pacific, when one of my orders took about 40 days to arrive.
I will retry them as Amazon are more expensive for the Scorpion discs amongst others.

If you click on the 'Adult Tab' on the old website- you still seem to be able to go through & place an order on the old site.

No idea whether this is by accident or design.

Re: DVD Pacific closes its doors?

Just tried to order a DVD. Couldn't get the VeriSign lock to show that the checkout page was secure. Tried on Firefox and Opera. Went to Amazon instead.

No more free shipping for US orders too , but most of the things I remember being in my wish list (is there a way to find your old one?) are still about the same price. Their shipping doesn't make much sense either (in terms of getting you to buy more), $2 for 1 $4 for 2. As you can see with all these Smilies this is getting me rather emotional.

Re: DVD Pacific closes its doors?

Just wondering if anyone outside the US has successfully placed an order with the "new" DVD Pacific?

I've tried a few times, and sent them messages but can't complete the checkout process. (Paypal's only accepting US orders via the site, which they're apparently looking into. and it won't accept my credit card details, though there doesn't seem to be anything wrong from my end?! - which they're going to look into too., but all this supposed checking on their end is taking weeks.) and going by my posting about this on DTV Forum Australia, I'm not the only one having CC issues.

I really don't want to go with someone else as they're still one of the cheapest for DVDs, but it's getting ever so tempting.

and I don't know why mangled their site layout so horribly?!

I placed an order a fortnight ago, and the order has been shipped so should be here any day.
