    SHADOWS OF FEAR (Thames 1970-73)

Does anyone remember this show? It's hardly mentioned in any printed reference sources. I remember being up late one night and seeing the beginning of an episode entitled "White Walls and Olive Green Carpets", which started off with a huge close up of somebody wearing a skull mask. Really creepy opening credits too. Unfortunately I didn't see the whole thing or any of the other instalments - I was only 6 at the time. Thames still have all 11 episodes available, I'd love to see Network (or anyone else, for that matter) release the entire series.

Another weekday TV series I'd love to get a chance to see is the BBC's "Menace" from 1970. I did manage to see a couple of complete episodes of this one at the time. Anyone else remember it?

There's an episode list over at imdb. I'm sure I watched these at the time but I really don't remember anything about them.

I have a DVDR of the SHADOWS OF FEAR episode THE DEATH WATCHER (starring John Neville), which is apparently the only one available at the moment. The others may not have been wiped, but they're definitely 'missing'. I also have an episode of MENACE, the superb and utterly bleak KILLING TIME with George Cole and Annette Crosbie, and the same applies here.

Marc- have I provided you with copies of these yet?

I have a memory of seeing an ITV shot-on-video suspense/thriller show in which a man frightens his wife to death by use of a mask, which we see a closeup of at the beginning of the programme. I wonder if this could be White Walls and Olive Green Carpets.

I also recall the continuity announcer stating that the show was not for viewers of a nervous disposition.

It's out on dvd now. Here's a review by David Flint.

I was thrilled to finally see this. I agree with David's opinions more or less, though I do rate THE DEATHWATCHER higher than he does. I felt THE PARTY'S OVER to be the weakest episode, but as David said, it seems like a stand-alone show that was tacked onto the format in hindsight. The fact that it's only 30 minutes long and is the only episode in period (1920s) costume reinforces this impression. As I expected, WHITE WALLS AND OLIVE GREEN CARPETS didn't let me down, but I was very impressed with the whole series.

I gather this NETWORK exclusive is being deleted on the 23rd December so I've just ordered it.There are a couple of copies on Amazon but it's cheaper off the companies website.
