USA: Choke Canyon from Code Red in June

On June 21 2009 Code Red will issue the 1986 action film CHOKE CANYON! To Dr. David Lowell (Stephen Collins, 7TH HEAVEN), Choke Canyon was the only location where he could conduct a vital experiment involving Halley's Comet and the production of safe, inexhaustible power. But to the Pilgrim Corporation's ruthless executive Brooke Alstair (Lance Henriksen, ALIENS, PUMPKINHEAD), it was an ideal spot to dispose of a deadly load of illegal nuclear waste. Lead by a veteran mercenary (Bo Svenson, INGLORIOUS BASTARDS, KILL BILL), the corporation's hired guns come after Lowell with everything they've got! Filled with careening off-road chases and exciting plane and helicopter dog fights, CHOKE CANYON is a high energy action thriller directed by Veteran action director Chuck Bail (THE GUMBALL RALLY).

    Specs/extras:

    • Brand New 16x9 widescreen master from the original negatives in Italy
    • Audio commentary with the late producer Peter Shepard, moderated by Lee Christian
    • On Camera interview with star BO SVENSON
    • Original Trailer
    • MSRP is $19.98

Gotta say that, with this and that Eric Stoltz release from a couple of months ago (was it RUNNING HOT?), Code Red have made some strange decisions release-wise lately... can't see this one getting too many people excited, cult movie lovers or otherwise...

It's a good movie and it's great that Code Red dare to release these less loved movies. Because there's hopefully some people who love them and want's to buy them I'm one of them.

Hi Fredzilla - well, I'm just saying that cult movies are a niche market in and of themselves and we all know how hard it is to sell good quantities of even a well regarded cult film, let alone ones that aren't held in particularly high regard within the cult / b-movie community... seems a strange business model to me - particularly when there's still so many great b-movies not yet out on DVD...

A few I really want on DVD:

    The Outing (aka The Lamp)
Sorority Girls and the Creature From Hell
    Twisted (1986, Christian Slater)

I have The Lamp R2 DVD already, but the A/V quality could be better.

To whom? There's no DVD available. I must admit that although it's a rather mediocre title, because of its UK "Video Nasty" status it has its fans and would I'm sure be an OK seller.

I'd say further detective work is required on this.

From Code Red's outstanding library, I think their biggest sellers will be:-

Night Warning (1983) aka Butcher, Baker, Nightmare Maker
Nightmare (1981) aka Nightmares in a Damaged Brain
Dead People (1973) aka Messiah of Evil

I think these will also sell medium/good quantities:-

    Bad Girls Dormitory (1986)
    The Mutilator (1985)
    The Silent Scream (1980)
    Human Experiments (1980)
    The Visitor (1979)
    The Farmer (1977)
    Teenage Hitch-hikers (1975)
Xiong zhong (1982) aka The Ninja Strikes Back
    Trapped (1982)
Nightmare Circus (1974) aka Terror Circus
    The Internecine Project (1974)
    Pets (1974)

The others are an unknown quantity really.

I'm just basing this on various fan and forum interest that I've experienced.

Night of The Demon would sell well if rights could be obtained.

Nightmare Circus (1974) aka Terror Circus
This was was recently issued in the US by Media Blasters as part of their original distrubution deal. Of course it pisses all over the Johnny Legend bootleg in every aspect.

Woohoo, anything with Lance Henriksen is worth picking up in my, less than, humble opinion! I'll be picking this up for sure.

Henriksen doesn't have much to do beyond looking sinister in this one. Bo Svenson (also in the Ovidio G. Assonitis-produced AMOK TRAIN) is the center stage villain and very good. Having only been familiar with Stephen Collins from annoying TV promos for the insipid show 7TH HEAVEN and popping up as a guest star in various eighties syndicated shows, I found him to be quite good here as the hero.

Dante Spinotti's cinematography is great as usual (although he was not as well known in the US at the time, I doubt a regular low budget American action flick would have gotten someone like him if not for Assonitis' common use of Italian crew in even his US shot productions).
