Re: Anchor bay uk to release coffin joe set!

Wow, this news amazes me. I would be really surprised if they manage to sell more than a few hundred of these.

Still, I wish AB UK good luck with these - I'm sure they know what they're doing. We passed on releasing these ages ago as there's simply no way they'd make their money back in the UK.

Bit of a blind side this. Thought they were out of the picture. For once I never got around to the R1 so maybe..... need to read up on these movies, never seen them...

Didn't the US version come in a nice coffin - like the Blind Dead films?

Yes this is the last thing you'd expect considering Anchor Bay's decision to stop releasing cult/genre films.

I have the Fantoma Coffin set (complete with Ze do Caixao comic books!) and even the Mondo Macabro Awakening of the Beast (so I guess this will be my third copy of that one...) and the Brazilian Finis Hominis/The End of Man disc. I also have copies of Hallucinations... and Strange World... but whatever the asking price is I'll be happy to pay it just for the ones I haven't seen and DVDs/possible upgrades of the ones that I have.

I wonder if the film of Marins' which was recently discovered and shown at a festival will be in the set? Can't wait to find out specs., release date etc.
You know, all things considered, 2009 is already turning out to be an amazing year for Cult DVD releases, and it's only Feb!

I'll believe it when I see it.... This isn't a WAGercise DVD so would be a dramatic about face from STARZ.

Maybe the recession has forced them to retreat to their core customers- us lot.

I own Awakening of the Beast, which is demented. I'd be interested in seeing some more.

After late night parties we sometimes buy DVDs that we didn't plan to. After late night parties at ABUK they obviously buy film rights they didn't plan to!

This is amazing news. Coincidentally I have been trying to track down a copy of the Brazilian box set for the last few weeks. Now I'm glad I didn't find one.

So presumably this listing at play must be the upcoming Anchor Bay set. I take back all the nasty things I've said about Anchor Bay in the last year. They are still a label that matters.

I'm only familiar with the earlier Coffin Joe films. Is there anything here that could cause problems with the BBFC? I've heard that Embodiment of Evil is pretty extreme. It'd be a real shame if they threw a spanner in the works for what could potentially be one of the greatest horror releases ever (in my opinion).

I have the coffin boxset & "Strange World..." so if there's no US rel. of "Embodiment..." coming 'soon', I'll pick up the ABUK set just for the new film.

Thought it was April 1st for a minute

I only have Awakening Of The Beast on disc, so if this comes out I will definitely pick up the set.

So based on the list of titles, will this boxset cover all of the Coffin Joe films?

Re: Coffin Joe DVD box set coming from Anchor Bay UK

This one really came out of the blue, didn't it?

I'd always wanted to see the Coffin Joe films since reading about them in issue 1 of House Of Hammer magazine. I bought the first two on the Fantoma label ( complete with the wonderful scaled down comic books ). I also have the MM edition of Awakening... my jaw nearly hit the floor when I saw this one! Terrific films all three. Essential purchases, imo.

Needless to say, I'll definitely be getting this boxset. Maybe they're missing us lot back at ABUK after all!

    Great news!

I can't wait to see the new one - it's playing on March 7th at the Prince Charles, should be good.

Yeah, I'll get this.... The Coffin Joe films were always on my to-get list and then one day the Fantomas were gone.... I would have liked to get the Brazilian box, even just as a collectible, but it never happened....

There's a nice page on the Coffin Joe Brazilian boxset here

The Coffin Joe films are now up on the Anchor Bay website. No details yet but hopefully there will be more info soon. It's great to see these officially confirmed.

    Coffin Joe Collection

    Embodiment Of Evil

I wonder if the box set will also contain Embodiment Of Evil or if it will only be available separately.

The old ABUK website's changed a bit. Where's all those pics of Sheila Keith weilding a power drill?

Re: Coffin Joe DVD box set coming from Anchor Bay UK

Really looking forward to this..and, yes, what a massive surprise! I've got the Fantoma releases (with the nifty comic book reproductions but with the previously unreleased in the US/UK titles, I'm gonna have to snap this up. I'll also be picking up Embodiment... I've had a sneak preview of the full movie and it's great. Very much an update of the Coffin Joe concept with perverse, hardcore violence - in keeping with contemporary horror trends - but still as bizarre as hell with those philosophical speeches, the creepy monochrome phantoms of Joe's old girlfriends, and a startling trip to purgatory which has a certain Jodorowsky vibe. It's certainly no lazy-minded, commercial sell-out..which is exactly what I feared.
