    Slow Response Times

Does anyone else suffer slow response times when visiting here? It often takes 30s or more for pages to load on my PC, replies to post etc and I was wondering what the problem might be. I'm still in the dark ages (i.e. not on broadband) but its not a problem I experience on any other forum I visit. It wasn't a problem on the ABUK site and I think it was OK here when the site first started. Seems to be in the last couple of months, with the profusion of logos, cover scans etc.

This is one of my favourites sites to come to, but at the moment its a bit of a chore waiting for things to load up. Any help much appreciated.

I'm sorry to hear that Mark. Is anybody else having any problems? It's all very fast from here.

Is broadband an option for you?

I'm sure it would be if I got off my a**e and sorted it out

Response time does vary though. Just now its a bit quicker than last time I visited. Since I haven't seen any other comments to this effect I'm wondering if something on my PC needs tweaking. Anyone know?

To be honest I couldn't be without broadband. I've had it for well over five years. Going back to dial up would be a nightmare.

I'm sure you could get a broadband deal for less than you're paying for your dial-up connection. I'm now paying a tenner a month for 16MB via O2.

Does that include line rental and telephone? So many of these deals have hidden charges. BT burned me rather badly and now I'm being really cautious before signing up with another provider.

I'm on 3 mobile broadband PAYG & I've noticed very recently that I've had problems with slower response times since the layout was changed (the additions of the affliates section at the top etc).I paid £65.00 for the dongle from 3 (at Woolworth) then it's £10.00 a month for 1GB & £15.00 for 3GB but at least I've no line rental to pay.You just get a voucher to top up from places like Woolworth or Tescos. It works pretty well though in the evening it does get a bit slower I suppose when more people are online.

I bought a portable modem usb stick from Three as well; on Monday when my old dial up computer died. I had to because the new computer I bought didn't have a dial up modem in it, and I don't fancy being stuck on a contract.

I paid £50 for it from Argos. It wsa a complete nightmare to get connected to the internet with it, but I think this was partly because I was drunk and impatient.

An hour on the phone to technical support on Tuesday morning with a hangover and finally I'm on.

Broadband is ace. The £15 for 3GB is over 30 days and is kind of expensive i guess, but you can pay £25 for more, and the point is you are free from a contract. Within the parameters you can pay as little or as much as you want, when you want.

    I dig it. Touch wood.

I almost gave up coming on here because, as Mark says, it's very slow to load on a dial up connection.
