Come on, this was shown on terrestrial TV for all to see, surely it deserves a thread on its own?
I watched this last weekend, and I have to say it's a brilliantly realized lump of cheddar. I had an absolute blast with it, and was thankful that the good old BBC didn't just go to the bottom of their horror barrel, but they actually pulled the barrel away from the wall to see if anything had fallen behind it and been forgotten.
Just look at the stars in this one: Michael Gough, Robin Askwith... okay, so they're the only "stars". But what the hell, they put in a terrific turn.
The plot is simple enough, some guy (ex Nazi, the WORST kind of guy) has situated himself off the beaten track to continue his experiments, aided by a dwarf (when you can't afford a hunchback, a dwarf'll do!). It's all something to do with "Mind Control", but it's the kind that entails actually cutting into the brain and stirring things up, as evidenced by the huge putty scars on the foreheads. A pop singer (Askwith), stumbles upon this bizarre place by accident, a pop singer needing a little break. Or maybe they cast him because, without a brain, he'd be impossible to control - who knows?
The film is bad, cheap, and extremely silly. Which, of course, is the charm. I absolutely loved it. I wanted to go to bed, but there was no way I was going to walk away from the film (right after it was done, I went ahead and ordered up the DVD).
Best scene? Definitely the car with the blades and basket for head collection. If you think about it, the blade would have struck people in the midriff, but somehow, it's the head that comes off. No matter.
Excellent entertainment this. Surely I wasn't alone in sampling it?
