Things To Come (William Cameron Menzies, 1936)

I watched this yesterday and was disappointingly underwhelmed. The start of the film was very impressive but once the war finished I found that I really started to lose interest. It is impressive from a technical point of view but I found the story itself to be uninteresting - a very unfair comparison but I kept thinking of how much better Poul Anderson's Twilight World novel was in dealing with a similar re-building situation.

Plus there was an unsavory tone to the celebration of the 'we don't like individuality' attitude of the Wings Over The World that really seemed at odds with the traditional sci-fi concept of peacefully benign but dictatorial false utopias.

No doubt a landmark film but a studious watch rather than an entertaining one.

Oh man, I don't have this, and I have no excuses. I really have to grab it. At times these odler films can swing from joy to misery... if you know what I mean. Kind of comes with the territory, but it's ridiculous it's not in my collection....

This film has got such an odd atmosphere to it. I've got a cheapo Madacy r1 release. Terrible quality.
