The French Connection movies (William Friedkin, 1971/John Frankenheimer, 1975)

Which is the best version of the two French Connection movies on DVD, the one with plenty of extras? On Amazon.co.uk the R2 box released in 2003 is more expensive.

It looks like you can get the 3 disc set from an Amazon seller for about 4 quid. I wouldn't call that expensive. You'd have to check it was the right one, as the Amazon listing says 1 disc.

Mark Y - There was definitely one DVD listed on Amazon UK which was more expensive.

I didn't know there was a 3 disc set. Thought the box available which contains both films was a 2 disc set.

The third disc is extras for the first film including a documentary, deleted scenes, etc.

The 3 disc set is definitely the one to get if you can find it. As Grant says, it includes the 2 disc version of the first film. The second disc has two hour long documentaries including the excellent BBC/Mark Kermode Poughkeepsie Shuffle, as well as the deleted scenes and other extras. The illustration added above is for the two disc version, as you can see...

The three disc set is identifiable by a sticker on the front and a banner along the top saying special edition instead of the 'two films two discs' which was a cheaper re-release WC.

    There's a nice R1 3 disc set:

The version I looked at on Amazon UK was one of only a couple or three DVDs containing both French Connection films which I thought were more expensive. But I must have been thinking of another film DVD I had been looking at on Amazon on the same day.

The DVD with "Two films on two discs" at the top of the front cover dosen't have many extras on it which is why I haven't bought that before now. Yet the listing page has a long list of extras.

I looked at this R2 DVD but was a bit unsure about purchasing it because of the Hotdog magazine sticker on it. It seems like it's a copy sold in an HMV or Zavvi store. I'm sure I've seen it before in a local HMV or Virgin store. It has the older looking 18 certificate on the front cover as well. Which dosen't matter as long as the discs aren't faulty. The link to the page is below:

It looks then like the R1 three disc boxset is the one to get as the R2 three disc set (based on something said in your post above Mark Y) seems harder to find.
