Friday the 13th movie series (1980-)

I wasn't sure what to call the thread as I don't consider Freddy vs Jason to be the most recent film in the Friday the 13th movie series, but Jason X instead.

Starting off the discussion with the following:

I'd like Paramount and New Line to get all of the legal issues and disputes sorted out first before getting as much as they can into this boxset - uncut and widescreen versions of every Friday the 13th film, deleted scenes (I don't mind the quality too much. Perhaps the condition of them in the vaults means they're beyond repair?), feature-length documentaries, shorter documentaries, archive featurettes and interviews, new interviews, trailers, TV and radio spots, a map of Camp Crystal Lake, production stills, music videos (Alice Cooper's (He's Back) The Man Behind the Mask), cast auditions and anything else which I can't think of.

I'm usually not the paranoid-mistrusting kind of film geek, but considering that there were early and solid reports of Joseph Zito, for one, stating that he'd be in possession of the orginal print (and considering in what great shape his "The Prowler" still was for the BU release) of "Friday, the 13th Part IV: The Final Chapter" and the growing cutbacks of planned extras during the production of the "SE" box set...I'd suggest that there's still much more to dig out IF Paramount were only willing to spend the time and money, let alone drop their laughable "Only R-Rated versions" attitude towards the Friday flicks....

I was toying with the idea of buying the r1 boxset. Can anyone tell me if the cuts of each film are identical to the region 2 discs? (Which I already have.)
Also,is it a digipak,or are the films packed in Amarays?
    Cheers.

Get the UK DVD of part one - the US disc is the R rated version. I'm pretty sure all the others are identical.

Friday the 13th: amazon.co.uk (US Unrated version)

I considered this way back. The US set is, I believe, a digipack.

However, you can get the films so cheaply in R2, and I happen to like seeing them all lined up, that I opted for the local discs instead. Of course there are less extras - but I hardly get time for them anyway, and I have two solid books on this series, so I doubt anything will be added to what I already have.

The boxset opens out in the style of a book, if you follow - I'm sure theres a technical name for this style which I dont know about... There are two films on each disc, and a fifth bonus disc. Depends how cheaply you can pick it up and how badly you want to see the extras as to whether or not its worth getting the set instead of the individual discs. Aside from the original, which is missing a few seconds compared to the R2 disc, the rest are identical versions on R1 and R2.

I rewatched the first two recently for the first time in ages, and they're still amongst my favourites. Truth be told, I'm not a big fan of any of the others - in the past, when I was younger, I was. Now not so much.

You know, I recently watched them all. And yes, strictly speaking, the first film is just great, the second not too bad - and everything after that less so.

On the other hand, I've got to admit that I had a really good time with the whole series. Not because they're good films - they're not. But they are all hugely entertaining in a cartoonish kind of way. They never seem to take themselves seriously, and they're just fun to wallow in for a bit.

I suppose they shouldn't really work - but they do.

I'm expecting supposedly lost footage being unearthed for the eventual Blu-Ray discs. The studios have to keep something back to keep us buying. An example being the forthcoming uncut release of Conquest Of The Planet Of The Apes on Blu-Ray from Fox.
