    The Octagon
Saw it at a drive in way back. Quite enjoyable with some good dialogue. Was the bad guy meant to resemble Bruce Lee? Sure seemed like it.

Yor the Hunter From the Future
Really a fun movie. Whether its the catchy song, or Reb Brown's smirk beneath the hairstyle, or the Darth Vader-style robots, or the bad guy's Terence Stamp impression, or the nice location shooting, this movie has something for everyone I would say.

    Star Wars

Pre-special edition. I find it hard to sit through SW except maybe every five years or so. There isnt much to it if you get bored with the design and fx. I have the same issue with Raiders of the Lost Ark. Maybe I saw them too many times in the past. I'd rather watch a slower paced movie most of the time.

White Buffalo watched this on a really crappy vhs tape . . full screen, blurry. . but still really enjoyed it. How did Carlo Rambaldi get away with being so awful? He always spent shitloads and ended up with something that looked like a fur covered fairground ride, which is exactly what he does with White Buffalo.

love that song ("Yor's World".... cheese on a stick, and all the better for it)

The Burning Moon (Olaf Ittenbach). Another splattery serving from the teutonic trashking. Though not as "fucking-out-there" as Premutos, it nevertheless held my attention sufficiently.
Watched The Roommate again. no, it's still mainstream crap, cockteasing of the highest order etc (everything decent is off screen or telegraphed like fuck) still, even with her face bashed in (though not that much hahaha) she's still lovely....

    At the Earth's Core

This is an awesome film-all that is missing is a theme song.
I heard Subotsky wanted to get into sword and sorcery movies after the horror/adventure films, starting with Thongor the barbarian, and I can see early traces of that interest here--it really becomes obvious with People that Time Forgot-which has a strong sword and sorcery design vibe. I got the out of print dvd and glad I did because it looks great.

    "It's Jubal the ugly one!"

Maybe I saw it in a drive-in before catching it often on tv.

    Day of the Jackal
When I first watched this I was riveted
and it is still a mesmerizing movie.
The efficiency and ruthlessness of the hitman
as well as the personality of the cop who is pursuing him.
I like when he is discussing the weapon with the gunmaker and the latter asks: "will the gentleman be moving or stationary?"

    Flash Gordon
Came to my mind after many many years when reading an article about a talking bear movie that mentioned Sam Jones.
Then Max Von Sydow's Ming the Merciless came into my head and I was thinking--hey I remember that movie. Maybe I should check it out again.
However I dont think I ever actually watched it through. I must say it was really impressive on many fronts--visually stunning costumes and set design--and Melody Anderson--what a face. I remember her form some 80s shows like Manimal I think. Some good laughs too. Was genius on whoever's part to make the two leads not in on the joke--the straight nature of their performances makes some of the lines spoken extra funny.
Sort of a sci-fi Wizard of Oz really--more so than Star Wars which also took some cues from it.
I was never a fan of rock music in movies-I think it dates some films badly-and perhaps the same is true with this but it wasnt as distracting as I expected and given the campy nature doesnt really matter.

V/H/S. Hit & miss it certainly is, but, sue me, I liked it. Containing echoes of m a n y FF films imo (cough house fae AU cough) I'l be watching this again.

Screaming In High Heels/Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers. A great double bill, wish the doc could have been sliiightly longer, but ho hum. HCH a total scream, cheeky wee script etc. Would make a great double bill with Cast A Deadly Spell imo.

Had a bit of a Code Red session over the past few days:

    RETRIBUTION - 7/10
    RUNNING HOT - 6/10
    CUT-THROATS NINE - 8/10
    JOSHUA - 5/10

...also making my way through BFI's STOP! LOOK! LISTEN! compilation. Some fantastic stuff on there!

Yes, They Live is probably even more relevant now than it ever has been! Such a great film, with an interlude for wrestling fans!

The Eiger Sanction: George Kennedy and Blacula`s wife team up with Clint Eastwood to fight crazy albino Nazis on a swiss Alp. Its the ultimate mash-up, or could have been if they have done it like that. Instead its a picturesque flick with some amusing lines--many of which get delivered by Kennedy.

Warlords of Atlantis Another outstanding Doug McClure adventure. It has a more picturesque quality than At the Earth`s Core spfx wise-and a more epic sounding score--a decent amount of monster action. It meanders a little but I aint complaining. That Hitler is such a popular fellow--he turns up in mind reading visuals here-and a few days ago I saw that he was in Flash Gordon in a similar capacity.

A Lonely Place To Die. Started with promise, then dived headlong into cliched by-the-numbers thriller territory. Can Melissa George only do one face? Still, with these Home & Away repeats, I may see if she "honed" her craft then as well, ha and indeed ha.
