    Ha ha...

I was after a collected edtion of THE CURE, but couldn't decide which to buy. In between Days, is a 'big' favourite track.

Join The Dots is quite comprehensive.

Join The Dots, I'll look over that. HMV had quite a lot of Cure CD's, which is unusual, they usually don't keep much of any band in where I shop. Just the volume-sellers.

    re-youtube band.
Don't know 'em Hamish, but that's no surprise. You're into rock I gather, what are they classed as, hard rock, indie-rock?

I think you should just buy everything from Three Imaginary Boys up to Disintegration (which is what the band did after this album). Pornography is still my favourite; that album is just so powerful!

    That would be ideal.

Another selection of 80s bands I like in terms of the music-mix is the -- not always easy to find -- CD to the dark comedy Grosse Pointe Blank. There seems to be some nonsense going on between an US import and the UK version. They seemed to leave The Cure out of the line up but it's still a blast.

Re: the film itself - The Cure, The Clash, they all crop up and match-up with the action brilliantly, in a way it breathes new life into the music.

Join the Dots: B-Sides & Rarities 1978–2001 is OK, but it's only worth it, in my opinion, for the first CD and half of the second one; remember that none of the hits are on it, though, just B-Sides and rare stuff (most from the early days). The rest is more of The Cure sucking up to America. If you had to go for a compilation, I'd recommend Staring at the Sea, even though it misses out singles after Head on the Door. You could buy Galore for the rest, though, even if it does contain post-Disintegration rubbish!.

I'll probably begin with Staring at the Sea Doc. Yeah, I was tempted by Head on the Door, but it was when I was got to the albums that I pulled back and decided to re-consider. With some bands, if you're after only one album, you can sometimes pick a general compilation that soaks up most of what's worth having, but not so with The Cure it seems.

No, The Cure albums are brilliant, in my opinion, up until Disintegration (did I mention that ) I felt that Disintegration could have been cut back a bit, though, as it's nowhere near as good as Kiss Me..., which has a similar amount of songs.

PUNK. ahem. im "into" all sorts of music really, TG, Abba, Faust, Beach Boys, Coil, Fela Kuti, Slayer, Jandek, Gnaw Their Tongues, Albert Ayler, Associates, Fall, Patti Wters, Betty Davis to name a few....

Re: Music Thread / What Are You Listening To?

Out of all those bands/singers you mentioned, I only really like Slayer. I could never really get into the industrial stuff like TG and the like. I have a feeling it's because I have ADHD and need things to move quite fast. Although, saying that, that doesn't really explain my love of early Killing Joke and early Godflesh, does it?

Or Candlemass and Count Raven. Hmm...

    Strange times, indeed...

Cheers, Flipper. It still amazes me that people don't like it. Especially when i play it at 10 oddly enough, takes all sorts i suppose.....

"listen to" is a better word, Hamish, I just find 'into' funny, it's like, 'hey man, what you into, I dig that'

I also listen to a wide range of music, it doesn't really join up the dots in any traditional way, I think you just keep an open mind and seek out the quality. Yeah, highly subjective, I know. A few years ago I was buying a lot of Johnny Cash for example.

Last album I bought was probably by The Clash. Or was that the one before the last?

but for California Dreamin' I enjoy or may even prefer the original to the Beach Boys version (...came to it by way of BB's) Difficult, both are perfect in their own way.

I caught this band live a few weeks back when they toured with Orange Goblin. Amazing band from Plymouth who specialise in Sabbathy, bluesy Rock 'n' fuckin' Roll with Ozzy/Danzig vocals (with a hint of Astbury sometimes)! I bet Iommi's kicking himself over some of those riffs!

    The Horrors - Strange House

Every now and then a band comes along who knock me for six. The Horrors very much appeal to my ADHD addled brain and I consider this album therapy! If you take one part Alien Sex Fiend, one part The Fall, one part Jesus & Mary Chain, add a sprinkling of Cardiacs and stir up in a horrorpunk cauldron, I think the result may well be Strange House! The music is chaotic in a good way and feels like it may have been recorded in an insane asylum back in the Victorian era! The only thing I don't like is that the album loses a little bit of its magic during the last three tracks, one of which is a dark, psychedelic keyboard instrumental.

I know that The Horrors changed paths straight after this album; I heard some of their newer stuff when I saw them live supporting Florence & The Machine. I do like their newer stuff, though, but Strange House will always be their best for me.
