I'm fortunate in having the entire Planet of the Apes on a Special Ed dvd and a stand-alone of the first film, an earlier Special Ed.

Now, I want to see The Hills Have Eyes, as Kel E said the remake was pretty good.

20 Million Miles To Earth, interesting, I'll tape this one as 50 SF is something I'm trying to catch.

I watched Destination Earth t'other week, unfortunately it had dated quite severely, something of a museum piece or piece of cinema history than fun.

Another find, The Last Detail is coming up in the next couple of weeks. I've been looking forward to catching it for a while. I wonder if Five Easy Pieces will appear anytime soon?

Unfortunately, I'm not with Sky/Cable Hamish!

Produced by the CENTRAL OFFICE OF INFORMATION, which sounds like it comes to us directly off the pages of Gorgeous George Orwell, these were such gems as LONELY WATER 1973, the unnerving piece where a child falls down a slippery mud-infested bank (very muddy and slippery... ) and ends up drowning or what-have-you whilst Death, or at least, a renegade monk stands in the background watching, the man with the hood.

This one must have run for years, as I either saw it late 70s, or into the 80s. It seems to be the best, or worst even, of the batch in many a child's imagination judging by Alison Graham's article. I certainly recall it...

It still 'chills' her to ths day.

Punk frenzy on BBC4 starting onn Friday with the first of 3 parts documentary Punk Brittania, followed by an Adverts doc later!! Also must plug the great John Cooper Clarke doc that graced our screens last night, which was followed by a decent episode of OGWT with him and the Banshees (and a shorn Bob Harris sucking off The Cars, hee sterical).

We've got the OMEN cycle coming up folks, here in the UK, sorry Kel! and beginning soon, on FILM 4, see the new Olympic Ed of RT. If I recall they are all on in rapid succession, over one week.

So we've got:-

and
OMEN III, THE FINAL CONFRONTATION

I haven't seen these films in a long long time, and as you do with some films you just start thinking about them again and think, let's see how that looks now. There's a lot of nonsense in them, but they had this very unsettling vibe, and there was something about the corruption of power at the top that was effective in making you think about things outside of the supernatural, but at the time, I don't think I realized that, like a lot of good horror, it works on different levels.

I understand that one of the things they pulled off with these movies was to get Gregory Peck involved, which legitimized them in many people's eyes, and the biblical references were made up but many people fell for it all nonetheless.

I give credit to the third movie for showing a scene where a demonic dog hypnotizes a woman into killing her baby with a hot iron. You wouldnt see that nowadays I think. But it ended with quite a...well, its up there with 2010 for hokey endings.
The Rapture --very interesting alternate take on literal Biblical interpretations. Quite an ending that one had.

Also reminded of Mr. Frost--the first 10 minutes are fabulous! What a hook that movie had. But other than the scene where he tells the inspector about his wife, it fell rather flat.
But I digress. My apologies.

I like Omens 1 and 2 but felt Omen 3:Final Conflict was the worse and quite laughable imo.

As to the religous aspect of the biblical references in the 3 of the films I have no comment (a subject frowned upon on here ) but to say some (but not all ) of those were made up and some were misinterpretated for dramatic purposes.

I don't quite follow what you mean Blink by 'frowned upon', what am I missing here -- I've only seen a docu where they said most of it was made-up. The Bible has references to the devil and predictions, so if you mean by that it's there as a general background, book of revelations etc, but not so "explicitly" as in the film, I'd agree, but can't see why mentioning that would be a problem around these parts?

The doc you mean was on the DVD and yes some of it was made-up,take for instance Father Brennan's quotation about the "eternal sea" is completely made up for the film and with Omen 3 they quote from non-existent books of The Apocrypha.

ahh, okay, I'll accept that then and let that aspect slide, duly noted - "theological debates" - oh well, I'll see if I can catch these films again, because I believed all of it as a kid and it was very scary indeed.

After finally getting to see the 8th episode of this the last series of Breaking Bad (AMC) last night....am appalled that I have to wait til next year to see the conclusion!!! Can't stand this current trend towards "splitting" series!!!! As i see there is no thread, I may start one, as this is one of the best US dramas I've seen in years......

Okay guys, looks like the Halloween night line up is out...

Mark Gatiss is doing a one off,

HORROR EUROPA WITH MARK GATISS...

It is a one off, unfortunately, not a series, builds upon his 2010 series, expands to encompass horror cinema in Europe, but tantalizingly, it appears, according to the RT write up anyway... the door is open at BBC4 for him to continue with follow-ups in the future, say, a Latin Horror review, or Whereever-horror...

but back to the above, it's supposed to be very good indeed on the clips, even if you are 'completely immersed in horror', and will more than satisfy any geek, but with Mr Gatiss, I think we could probably guess at that... some rare flicks coming up in this one it seems folks. Andrew Collins of RT has run a two-page spread on it...

we ought to get more fo this stuff, quality, and at least 4-6 episodes. apart from that, it seems like the schedules are blank this HALLOWEEN NIGHT, there are a few nods to Halloween/horror, well, two.... on late, I think it's ITV 1 that's showing it, a programme on the cultural legacy, history, plays, films of Frankenstein, looks quite good actually.

But that's it, I noticed a Friday 13th was on recently, or coming up, the remake, so they've scattered some horror over the networks, but not on the night, perhaps it's the Wednesday eve aspect, not exactly a Friday night feel...

I'm not on Sky, so maybe it hots up on there... on the actual eve.
