    BBC1 - 10:35 pm Imagine... Werner Herzog

Beyond Reason: Alan Yentob meets German film director Werner Herzog in a revealing documentary about one of modern cinema's most surprising and complex filmmakers. Very strong language.

    Re: TV Alert

Not so much an alert,I didn't know were to put this.

Just watched the hyped,(by BBC trailer) 1st episode of Bonekickers.

Maybe it was me,but I am thinking I won't slag off Dr Who and Torchwood again.

    Sh*tkickers more like.What the f*ck was that.?
    Stiff upper lip Torchwood.?
Now I know Torchwood had its knockers for juvenile ideas of a grown up show, but it had a certain charm.

I've had more fun watching repeats of Tony Robinson in a trench.

Major Turkey alert.I don't know if this program deserves even a mention.

    Stanley Kubrick's Boxes

    More4 Tues 15 July 2008 10pm

Two years after Kubrick's death, Jon Ronson was invited to the director's estate to explore the hundreds of boxes the legendary film director had collected during his decades at Childwick Manor in Hertfordshire. He's been returning ever since, and the story of Kubrick and the archive, now housed at University of the Arts London, is revealed in this fascinating documentary.

Ronson asks: is it possible to get to understand such a man – and his extraordinary working methods – by looking through the hundreds of boxes he left behind?

Sadly it's in a pan & scan version which is a huge disappointment.I'm surprised Fox have not released a dvd yet.

Anchor Bay US had it scheduled for a release at one point but it never materialised.

Bit late for posting, but has anyone noticed that Vault of Horror started on Film 4 at 11.35 pm.
A damn sight better than the poppy Vipco disc by the looks of it,and the voiceover said restored,so uncut.?

When was the last time this was on,or is it a regular on Sky.?

    Re: The Vault of Horror

I recorded it, planning to dub it to DVD-R if uncut - regardless of aspect ratio.

I considered buying the new R1 double feature (with Tales from the Crypt), but as far as I can make out from the alternative version comments on IMDB, the R1 version of Vault of Horror is cut for a PG rating.

    Re: TV Alert

Sadly Paul the R1 double bill does indeed feature the censored PG cut of Vault Of Horror. However, Tales From The Crypt is uncut so given the fact it can be picked up online for just over a fiver (including P&P) I'd say buy it just for Tales From The Crypt which I always felt was by far the best of the seven Amicus anthology films.

Watched it myself last night, and it was indeed uncut, although fullscreen. A caption after the end credits said something like "produced from archive materials held by the BFI".

It was fullscreen but it looked open matte to me which is ok till an anamorphic uncut disc appears.

    Re: TV Alert

Well it was an improvement over the shimmering Vipco disc with the quiet, crackling sound.

I did record in the hope it was uncut,so now I have 3 choices of how to watch.

It was definitely open matte as the US disc cuts a sliver of the top of Daniel Massey's head in the opening lift scene at one point.Plenty of headroom in the Film Four version.

    Re: TV Alert

Vaults on again on Sat 30th at 11.05 pm,if anyone's bothered.
They could have at least put the adverts on between stories instead of halfway through the Terry Thomas bit and the grave diggers bit.

It looked marginally better than the Vipco print,in that the picture was stable.
Was it supposed to be a restoration.?

Anyone remind me if the Zombies ever actually appeared at the end in the original cut,or was this fuelled by publicity photo's.? and people memories playing tricks.
