    The Police Academy movies (1984-94)

I've seen a different Police Academy R2 disc listed on Play.com recently and I wanted to ask anyone here if they know if this is a bootleg or not. It's called "Police Academy 4: Citizens on Patrol (Alternative Edition)" and contains 14 minutes of deleted scenes. The URL link to the Play.com listing page is below:

Marc, can you confirm whether this is a genuine DVD or a bootleg version? Based on your posts on the ABUK forum you know your stuff about whether some DVD releases of films are genuine or bootleg versions.

    It's an official Warner release.

I think it's called the Alternative Release because it was originally cut slightly for a PG. Under BBFC guidelines, if a later uncut version subsequently comes out, it must be labelled in some way as different - heaven forbid anyone picks it up and is subjected to a bad word they never heard when they watched an older release, society would surely crumble to dust within weeks.

I got this one, and as far as I can tell, its the same as the old VHS. The extra footage is as extras, not in the film itself.

The VHS was cut to remove Guttenberg applying glue to a microphone which subsequently sticks to whatsisface's chin [apparently an 'imitable technique']. The dvd restores this cut. So it's not an alternate version at all really. Besides which they didn't use the 'alternate version' heading for PA 6 even though that also had cuts restored. PA 4 is bloody awful by the way; by far the worst of the first 6 films IMO. I can't bring myself to watch PA 7.

It's annoying some of the sequels are in 4:3 when the French releases are all anamorphic

I was a bit disappointed when I tested out the Alternative Version R2 disc of Police Academy 4 and found it was in full screen (the print is a bit dark as well and the the picture at the start jumps slightly as the credits start). Have the Police Academy movies ever been shown in widescreen on the TV?

I was recently in a remote part of Thailand, and at the hotel were I stayed I was almost alone (off-season) However on the hotels own channel they showed all the PA films in row over and over non-stop 24/7. I saw them at least 5 times, all of them over the 10 days I was there
