We're used to the Italians making homages to films that had been succesful elsewhere. Some call them "rip-offs", but if they're fun why use a derogatory term?
This film is a homage to Psycho, a film that had been released to much acclaim a year prior to its release. The simularities are all too obvious, but to say too much would rob you of some of the fun of the film. If you channel Psycho while watching it, you ought to have fun.
At the same time this is a William Castle film, and I can't help but love everything he's done. He was a showman both on and off the screen, and he really rolled out the carpet fo this one (as shown in the extras). And you know, i'll even go as far as to say this is probably the best of the Castle films as far as pure cinematic excitement is concerned. It's actually a very good little thriller.
Add in some showman spice in the form of a "fright break", and you have a great little title that begs to watched time and again. Yup - another Castle classic!
