I sell on there all the time and it's far better than eBay if you want higher prices. More often than not you get them and my best sale was 'The New Avengers' boxset for just under £180! I knew that it was coming out again so I chanced my luck and it paid off (mine was the cheapest price). One month later they'd dropped as low as £40 so I got in at the right time. I only paid £25 in the HMV sale for it, and with having the later Optimum release bought for me as a Christmas present I have done very well with this particular series. Unfortunately though as a buyer there are OOP prices that are way OTT. I generally use eBay for such things

I was about to put something on, but 20%+?! I thought eBay was bad.

Playtrade isn't bad but its early days, you're restricted to items in their database. Fees are 50p+10% of the sale price (which has to include postage) and its free to list. Funds can be downloaded to the bank at a cost of an additional 5% or spent at Play wiithout any penalty. Works well at getting high prices for deleted collectors editions and games. I'm all for anything that helps to loosen the smug, patronising ebay's grip

I won't be selling or buying anything on eBay in the near future. It's depressed me the last few times I've sold something on there. It's not been too bad when I've bought something on there after winning an auction, but selling things on there can be depressing.

For some reason I can't sell region 1 dvds on play. Is there a restriction?

    Not that i know of,as they had plenty of r1 horror titles on play trade,horror hospital,norman j.warren set,cannibal holocaust,zombie night,etc.

Maybe its a title deemed "offensive" by the regulators, and thats why you cant sell it?

No. Maybe it's restricted to the seller and the disc both being US

Why has it depressed you? I've sold tons of stuff on eBay and not had a problem (aside from eBay removing my auction for I Spit on Your Grave. I tend not to sell on Amazon, but I've bought stuff recently from sellers there and been very happy - helped me to gain a positive image of Amazon sellers again.

Some items haven't sold for as much as I would have liked, people haven't added feedback, I paid for a DVD boxset but the seller didn't send it (they ended up being no longer an eBay member. I bought the boxset eventually from Play.com), some buyers' lack of communication and some items not selling at all when I thought there would be interest (CD singles I've put up for auction on eBay).

I recently had a really bad experience with eBay/Paypal - have done a bit of looking into their seller protection policy and it's a) not a worth a damn and b) possibly not legally enforceable.

I've now listed a bunch of stuff on marketplace but no takers yet. I guess it's a waiting game - especially if you're selling more obscure stuff.

    Re: Amazon sellers

I used to sell quite a bit on eBay, but I can't be bothered with the hassle of listing, photo's etc. At the minute I've got a stash of doubled DVDs etc that I could list and sell, but I really can't motivate myself to do it.

Best I had was £42 for the deleted R2 of Blade Runner. Flogged that and then went and bought the identical in-print R1 equivalent for under a fiver.

I also flogged my Criterion Hard Boiled to a collector for silly money, and was more than happy to spend pennies on an anamorphic Tartan Spec. Ed to replace it.

I sometimes used to buy R1 box sets from US sellers, because more often than not they would mark the value down to get it through customs hassle free for me. I've done that with Sopranos box sets (I'm a sucker for the nice shiny packaging the American's get compared to our sets), and I guess I'll probably have to do it again with Series 6 when I find a reasonably priced one.

James, I had to do this on play trade, with the Region 1 CANNIBAL FEROX, all I did was list it under the R2 VIPCO version, and stated in the description box, that it ws the uncut R1 version.

mines the bottom one on the listings

    Re: Amazon sellers

I've had good and bad experiences on Ebay. Most annoying thing from a sellers point of view (apart from non-payers) is the amount of watchers who sit there and don't bid. I guess some of them have the same item and want to see what your auction fetches, but others perhaps sit and watch because they don't have much else to fill their time. Then again, perhaps it's a way of trying to get the price lowered on a relist. Like many, I'm now listing on Amazon, hoping to move a few items for a decent price. As a buyer, I've found Marketplace to be excellent.
