The Funeral / The Addiction on DVD

    Rejoice, Ferrara fans.

The Funeral and The Addiction (both '95) are set for a R2 DVD release on 30th June.

Both are on the same disc, which is being released by 20th Century Fox. And it only costs £7.99 at Play. Here's the link:

No mention of widescreen on Play, but this month's copy of Uncut says the disc will be. Fingers crossed.

Graham, you are a star, mate! Hadn't heard about this one. Great news! Probably my fave Ferrara films, with 2 great performances from Walken and Sciorra.

Walken's performance in THE ADDICTION is terrible! (or is it just the dialogue?!?!)

Couldn't find much wrong with either Walken's performance or the dialogue, Claire. First time I saw this film was at the Fantasm Festival, several years ago. To be fair, THE ADDICTION seemed to go down like a lead balloon with most of the audience so maybe it's just me. With the possible exception of DANGEROUS GAME, I'd rate THE ADDICTION as Ferrara's best to date, though I have a lot of respect for THE FUNERAL and for most of his other films.

I went to see The Funeral at the London Film Festival with a friend of mine, and while I - just - managed to stay awake (unlike my friend) and admire the excellent performances I have to admit the pace is funerial (no pun intended) and the film as a whole is rather depressing and humourless.

The Addiction however, I found unbelievably pretentious (and entertainingly so) that I so I haven't a bad thing to say about it other than it would have been nice to have had more than just a quick cameo from Chris Walken. Even spouting nonsense he's worth watching and I think it's one of Sciorra's best performance's too.

    For 8 quid its a no-brainer anyway.

I also caught THE FUNERAL at the London Film Fest, at the 2nd of its two screenings. Did you manage to make the Ferrara interview on the Sunday morning? Well worth attending, though I recall Ferrara went missing for what seemed like ages, during a clip from the aforementioned film.

Fully agree with your comment re Sciorra's performance - reminded me a bit of the strong performances from Dianne Keaton in THE GODFATHER films.

No, I never caught Ferrara, more's the pity.

The only interviews I've attended (that I can remember right now) are Takeshi Kitano, John Carpenter and James Ellroy.
