Rambo: First Blood to Rambo III

I thought I'd start a separate thread for the first three Rambo films, to keep the discussion separate away from that for the planned Rambo IV.

Watched Rambo III last night and I enjoyed it. I must not have seen it in full before because some of it I don't remember seeing before. Thought it got better as it went on. And through the series you can see the obvious parts which were spoofed in Hot Shots: Part Deux. The opening fight in Bangkok in Rambo III I've seen before when I only saw bits of it. In the spoof Charlie Sheen's dipping his fists in bowls of jelly babies.

We were in chat last night, and some unpleasant things were said about this one. I think it's pretty damn cringe worthy to be honest. The whole plot is so weak, and the cavalry/western climax is laughable in the extreme. Add in Rambo with a perm, and you've got a bad movie. Cheesy fun I guess, but definately not good.

For me its a law of diminishing returns all the way. Give me the old Lewis Collins movies for a better cheese than 3.

Never been all that enamored with the Rambo series to be honest although the original David Morrell novel First Blood on which the first film was very loosely based is a cracking read and worth tracking down.

The Rambo trilogy is a guilty pleasure of mine. I still haven't seen Rambo III fully uncut yet though.

First blood is still a great action flick imo, and fb2 is so gung ho that i still love it. I have fond memories of seeing it at the cinema when it came out in the mid 80's with all this furor about how violent it was..it should have been an eighteen, etc.
The cinema was packed to the rafters, now thats good publicity,eh.

    Rambo 3 is even sillier....

Who Dares Wins is one of my favourite action films, even though it's very slow in places. The ending is worth it though.
