    The Pink Panther movie series

I've just done a board search and there are no existing threads for the Pink Panther films. There's one thread for the Steve Martin Pink Panther film and two for the cartoon series. I did the same search a few weeks ago but decided against starting a thread for the film series then.

I was going to get the Peter Sellers Pink Panther films boxset, but because it didn't include The Return of the Pink Panther (1975) I decided straight away I wasn't getting it, despite there being plenty of extras.

They did bring out the 1975 film on R2 this year but there weren't any extras with it. And I wanted to get all the films together in a boxset. Well from the original up to Revenge from 1978.

I've got the 1975 entry on VHS. It was released by ITC.

I have all of them on DVD, except, The Return of the Pink Panther (1975)
dvdcompare.net says there are no cuts, but sadly, some of those DVD's are cut. I have the pink panther movies on VHS, and they had some scenes that wasn't included on the DVD's. I got the scandinavian DVD's by the way, but I think, though i'm not 100% sure, that the UK releases are the same as the scandinavians.

The films in the boxset aren't uncut then?

I have the boxset here and seen all the dvds in there and I do not believe them to be cut, however the Return of the Pink Panther (sadly missing from this set ) had an audio cut in the scene where Christopher Plummer is escaping from the bad guys and as he falls on his a** he mutters the word S**t,this was present in the cinema print also, hope that helps Wavecrest.

Would that be the exact same cinema where you saw Commando uncut?

So we could see that bit in public but not in our own homes? How bizarre.

Thanks for your help. Much appreciated. I was looking on the various DVD shopping sites I use last night, to see what the price was for the Pink Panther movies boxset. Whenever I go in Virgin I see loads of copies, selling at the moment for £22. I'm sure I saw them in there or HMV for less than that a few weeks ago.

I can't check again in the HMV store in Merry Hill as at the moment it's having a refurbishment. Was supposed to have reopened this month but it's not looking like it.

Re: The Pink Panther movie series

To save people looking here is the info I was originally sent by the BBFC:-

THE PINK PANTHER was classified 'A' for its theatrical release in 1963 with
    the following cut -

Reel 2 - The scene between the Inspector and his wife in bed was
reduced, in particular, the lines "I don't think you should. I should do it
    ever so softly" was removed.

A SHOT IN THE DARK was classified 'A' for its theatrical release in 1964
    with the following cuts -

Reel 2 - The whole episode in which Maria describes how Miguel was
very passionate, tore off her dress, removing the buttons and couldn't wait
    was removed.

Reel 4 - The whole talk about rape and seduction, ie beginning
with "You loved the man who raped you?" and ending with "that is why the
tobacco companies are so rich!" was removed.

Reel 6 - Dialogue line "Right down to the moustache!" was removed.

Reel 10 - Dialogue line "Afterwards you will not smoke!"
All shots, dialogue and sounds whilst Clouseau and Maria are in
the bedroom and sounds of them are heard from outside the door were
    considerably shortened.

THE RETURN OF THE PINK PANTHER was classified 'U' for its theatrical
release in 1975 with the following cut -

Reel 4 - Dialogue word "****" at the end of the reel as Charles
picks himself up after falling through the window was removed. (However, he
can be seen to mouth the word.)

PINK PANTHER STRIKES AGAIN was classified 'U' for its theatrical release in
1976 with the following cut -

Reel 2 - In the fight between Clouseau and his oriental servant,
the use of chainsticks was removed.

TRAIL OF THE PINK PANTHER was classified 'A' for its theatrical release in
1982 with the following cut -

Reel 3 - In the sequence in which Clouseau is attacked by Cato,
all sight of chainsticks was removed.

Re: The Pink Panther movie series

ALL the cuts above including the 2 minute cut to the "rape" discussion in Shot In The Dark are all restored to the dvds with the exception of the swearing cut made to Return Of......I checked them.I also posted the entire dialogue censored from SITD on the WWWDVDFORUMS thread & the original film.

The cut would be waived if the uncut version was re-submitted today.
