Ha! I guess it's cool that Directors like Del Toro can make a name for themselves and then set about remaking their own favorite films. The Tarzan movies were all about Johnny Weissmuller for me, I watched those as a kid and really ought to pick them up on DVD. The newer films just didn't have that campy fun of those films. Still, it seems Del Toro wants things to be a tad more serious, so we'll have to wait and see what he comes up with.
Have they ever released the original with the censored naked underwater scene reinstated or given as an extra?
Watch the magic pumpkin!
Its available on the R1 Weissmuller box reinstated. Its been out for ages Warner need to do a second box with the RKO movies.

The second box set is already out on R1 of the rest of the Weismuller tarzans.
The first two movies in the series (The Ape man and And His Mate) are pretty gob-smacking to view with their pre-Hays code sex, violence and racism. Very much the T2's of their time. The second gets all the kudos - due to the nudity and the overtly sexual relationship between Weismmuller and O'Sullivan - but the first is every bit of outrageous with its dwarves blacked up as pygmies section, O'Sullivan undressing infront of her dad and giving the audience an eyeful of her cleavage, plus elephant stampedes and high body count.
I was thinking about the old Tarzan films the other day and how much I used to enjoy them as a child. Had a look at the IMDB and was astonished to see just how many had been made. One particular film gave me nightmares - it had a tribe of cannibals chasing the safari people through the jungle into the mountains. This probably shaped my adult viewing tastes more than any other film, and I would love to find out what it was called.
After the mentally stimulating Pan's Labyrinth it'll be good for Del Toro to give his system an action-packed boost with this new Tarzan. The man's a super-duper artist.
So how many films is Del Toro signed up to direct now? Hellboy 2, In The Mountains Of Madness, the remake of The Witches, this...
I wouldn't look too soon for this. Surely a Tarzan film would be a huge bomb anyway?
Damn you all, now I'm lusting after those Tarzon sets![]()
Well Black I started to drool so I realised that I needed these. Thanks to this thread I have just bought sets 1 and 2 so thanks guys and I look forward to the letterbox thud that I'll get from these beauties!
What's your address? And when is the house empty?
Well done, mate. Jealousy doesn't begin to describe what I'm feeling now.
With my collection the house always has someone at home. The good thing is though Black that they can be ordered and here within a couple of weeks (how I hate waiting!) I did debate over whether or not to hit the submit button over at amazon because of "Christmas=Low finances" but the urge was too strong. I am finally going to have all of the JW Tarzan films in my collection! Wow! I thank all posters in this thread again, thankyou!
Just to say that I ordered these with Caiman via Amazon in the early hours of this morning and they have been shipped already. Caiman are very quick and thoroughly recommended (and they ship each dvd seperately so no customs).
I want to give praise to Caiman too. Excellent service when I've used them.
