Arrow Rare & Deleted Dvds Thread

There are some really lovely DVDs which are sometimes released under the radar of collectors and which eventually become rare and almost impossible to obtain (Remember the Korean Oldboy copper-tin set?). This thread could be used to alert other members about upcoming DVDs that are rare, exclusives, variant editions, limited, numbered, etc. Also, this space could also be used to talk about films that have been deleted from DVD catalogues.

To start, let me alert Wicker Man fans to the following HMV Exclusive (which is becoming very hard to find):

The above packaging is just too cool for words (the above photos don't do it justice!). The 3-DVD set is wrapped in a hessian sack that really conjures up the atmosphere of the film. The online price was £12.99 but it has now sold-out. There are a few copies left in some of the larger High Street branches. Hurry!

Good thread and I will look in on this often. I will also post if I hear anything. My last decent buy was the German velvet cased Blood and Black Lace which I got from a friend who knew a friend in the States who had it

That Wicker Man is nice btw and as one of my fave films I surely cant add a fourth dvd set...

This new edition of The Wicker Man has a crucial bonus feature:

Burnt Offering: The Cult of the Wicker Man

This was the 50min Mark Kermode documentary that aired on Channel-4. Plus, you get the full Soundtrack Album thrown into the sack. And the stylish packaging is way too good to resist. It looks brilliant next to the ABUS wooden-box set.

I saw that Wicker Man release in my local HMV - wouldn't say it "conjures up the atmosphere of the film", I'd say "it comes in a bag". Still, nice for collectors. I think overall the US release in a wooden box was more interesting though.

The hessian sack conveys the rural aspect of the film. And good as the wooden box is (the design is superb), it lacks the Kermode documentary. That was the best profile of the film I've seen so far. This makes the new edition rather interesting for fans of the film.

Yeah, I wasn't talking about the content of the DVD, just the packaging. I guess a hessian sack is "rural", but really, I didn't find it reminded me of the film particularly. Each to their own mate.

Summerisle is an agricultural community which harvests apples. This fruit is made into cider or placed into sacks and sold at markets. The hessian sack, with the burnt brand-mark of the Wicker Man, is very much in keeping with the spirit of the film. That whole rural design brings strong images from the film whenever my eyes fall upon this rare edition.

Bad news for those who want the set. I spoke to a worker at HMV and was informed that each store was only allocated a meagre handful of these variant exclusive sets and they've virtually sold-out across the country. You can't place special orders fro them. The stock is now made up of regular packs.

Sellers on certain auction sites have already started raking in money from the hessian sack edition.

    What are you saying?

    I'm confused...

According to the information, that Mark Kermode documentary - Burnt Offering: The Cult of the Wicker Man - is NOT edited.

    What are you on about?

Probably confused this doco with the one Kermode did for THE EXORCIST – ‘The Fear Of God’ – which was edited on R2 DVD – either that, or he’s up to another one of his wind ups…

Seven, you crack me up. I know WHY it's a hessian sack. It's just that when I saw it it looked like..... a sack with a DVD in it. I did not feel it conjured up anything. Reading you justifying it is entertaining though

Cool Re: Rare & Deleted Dvds Thread

Good idea for a thread, i know it's been pointed out in other threads but i thought it would be a good idea to mention it here, the 5-Disc Limited Edition of Richard Stanley's Dust Devil is available now, but with only 9,999 copies worldwide it might not be around for long.

There's FIVE discs in that set!

    Get them while you can.

Have you got yours yet, Summerisle?

Oh, that Texas Chainsaw Massacre Tin has also been released. The image is meant to be much better.

The seminal film that Wicker Man is,can live without it in a cloth bag.
If limited edition is released that isn't much dearer than a regular one of course I am interested, but not if I have it already.
I am miffed about Wacky Races complete series. An HMV exclusive for £25,I want it but not for that much.
