David Brent - Faux Microsoft Interview

I dunno how many of you have seen this - none Iīd guess because I never see anyone mention Ricky Gervais or The Office on here - but here is the 2 parts of the spoof interview. I read on some website that Microsoft didnīt take too kindly to it and so that could possibly explain why (to my knowledge) it hasnīt been out on any DVD as of yet.
One possible criticism of this doc, is that Gervais uses a lot of the jokes that he used in the 3 parts of The Office, while this may be off-putting to some, I personally canīt get enough of the guy, so the jokes actually work better as they just add to Brentīs bolstering ego, and how he thinks heīs always right.

Anyway, take around 35 minutes out of your life and get a good dose of comedy, it sure is a welcome relief from horror films all the time

Part 2 is the one that I enjoy the most - Max Wallīs My Name *drum roll*.

I saw my first episode of "Extras" the other night, it was apparently the final episode of season 2 (or was it season 1?)

Anyway, I was very disapointed. I have a sneaking feeling Gervais is a one-trick pony. He can only play himself. Also, the narrative line Extras was taking was a copy of the path Seinfeld took, which is a bit worrying - all the way down to the woman almost losing him the opportunity.

I've seen his standup routines on DVD, and they're "amusing" rather than funny. And perhaps I shouldn't make a judgment based on a single episode - but let me tell you, that experience didn't make me want to see more.

The Office was, and is, totally classic though. It's just about perfect, imo. I just wonder if Gervais will ever rise above it. I'm suspecting not.

Oh, and his cohort needs to stay on the other side of the camera. He's not funny, can't act, and just looks goofy.

Apologies NPC, I did do a search, but of David Brent, not The Office. They could always be merged together anyway.

To be honest, I havenīt seen Extras, with being in Mexico I seem to miss out on the good things in life nowadays, as a matter of fact theyīre only just showing the American Office (which sucks).
I agree in that Gervais is a one trick pony, even in real life he seems to be exactly the same, but sometimes that can be a good thing for me, sometimes artists can try to be too different, and stray too far from what theyīre good at, one thing Iīve learned in life is that as humans, we are limited and have to work to our own strengths.

So youīre an Office fan then? what are your favourite Brent moments then, Black?

New series of Extras tonight. I found the first series very uneven, the parts that worked best were when Gervais was trying to be helpful and normal instead of diluted Brent. The supporting cast were what made it work, Ashley Jensen, Stephen Merchant and Shaun Williamson and the appearances from Ross Kemp, Les Dennis and Patrick Stewart were great. When you realise the series is about time passing while you wait for something to happen it improves a lot.

My favourite Brent moment was in one of the Christmas specials where he's waiting outside the office and a fat woman walks by and he starts to look disappointed before saying "Sorry, I'm waiting for a blind date and I was worried that you were it". It says a lot about the writing that you end up feeling sorry for Brent most of the time, despite him being one of the worst people in the world.

That bitīs hilarious, I found the pub date to be funnier though when he was all excited saying:

"Yeah, she said that sheīd be wearing a white schiffon scarf to help me spot her so..."

*Fat woman in schiffon scarf approaches in the background, Brent quickly glances*

"Oh for fu...... sa..... I donīt...."

Also other favourite moments - the whole guitar episode, when he announces their redundancy and his promotion, the blind date part, his speech to the newly arrived īSwindon mobī, Frei Bentos.... Lots more, Iīll be here all day if I list them all. Special mention to Finchy too, top bloke!

lol, Wayne, my wife gives me funny looks all the time, I have a habit of sitting down alone in my thoughts and randomly laughing hysterically when something funny comes into my mind, they call me īthe crazy English guyī here in Mexico

Do you mean the disco dance when heīs trying to upstage Neil or when heīs at Rickyīs party in the first series and having bullcrapped Malcolm over why he didnīt take the promotion, he runs off swinging his arms in the air? The dance scene in the comic relief episode was so overhyped that I just donīt find it funny. The funniest bit in that scene actually was when Neil was dancing like John Travolta and Brent just stands in the background looking jealous and the randomly says "that looks gay!"
