It's finally official!

Cracker will return for a special one-off drama!

The story will be about a suicide-bomber and Robbie Coltrane has agreed to return.

This episode could be as topical and effective as the one where Robert Carlyle played a Skinhead.

I just hope it's better than Jimmy McGovern's The Street.

Interesting series this. I have the box set and watched them a while back. The series starts brilliantly, then lags in the middle as it slips into a melodrama, and then returns to end on a bang. So this has potential.

I liked it a great deal when it started but the final episode White Ghost, set in Hong Kong was awful. I don't think I've ever seen a human being sweat as much as Robbie Coltrane did in the scenes that were actually shot there

:D I thought that was the upturn. Couple episodes prior to that were getting a bit dire, I reckon.

Jimmy McGovern has stated that a new series is going to happen, mainly because Coltrane and Co. had so much fun making the one-off. At last, more good TV is going to happen!

I love "Cracker", though I first discovered it quite recently, when it came out on DVD in Finland. So far, we got two box sets, each including 3 full episodes.
The one with Robert Carlyle is really brilliant TV.
The DVDs - with their forced subs and zero extras - leave a lot to be desired - but the series has won me over.
At least, I can watch those with my wife, whereas "Last House on Dead End Street"...:p

Good buy Peter! I have the ten disc set from the UK. It's a nice little box with................ no extras. So there ya go :D

Start buying some "Inspector Morse" and "Touch of Frost" as well. You'll be mighty glad you did.

Apreciate your luck, mate. I got the feeling you're in a pretty exclusive minority position :D

There are a lot of Brit series coming out on DVD in Finland at the moment. They're very popular on TV here too. One or two of them are getting shown on a daily basis (We even got "Emmerdale"!:p ) and the weekend offers at least a couple of crime series made in the UK to choose from.:)

So, did anyone see it?

This was a very good start to the autumn season on ITV. Gritty and no nonesense drama with plenty of bite.

The trailers included new episodes of Ray Winstone in Vincent and Helen Mirren in Prime Suspect.

These fresh dramas shame the Beeb whose head-up-the-ass reworking of yet another Jane Eyre is bland and boring.

I watched it. I thought it was middling. For me, there was not enough "Cracker". The show was also a little too long, it could have lost 15 to 25 minutes quite easily.

Still it wasn't bad, and Coltrane is always worth watching.

a few expertly broken necks, the old woodpigeon flying through the window routine...sadly this one didn't do it for me..shame really as i'm a big cracker fan.

I'm not sure how true this is, but there's a rumour that the DVD (due out next Monday) will be an Extended Cut. I hope it's true...

And yeah, after all this reality-shitty TV, the new Cracker was a step in the right direction.

Given my feelings that the TV showing was too long, I don't know that any good can come from an extended print. However, they are going to have to put some extras on the disc is they expect the likes of myself to buy it.

is it extended? -
Play list the running time for the new Cracker dvd at 2 hours 33 mins..
will there be extras? -
-Behind the scenes
-Commentary from Jimmy McGovern...again, according to play.

Cracker - Behind the Scenes went through the bbfc a while back - 46 mins long.

That sounds like the "Behind the scenes" show that was aired right after the last broadcast. The commentary might be interesting.

Some conflicting news here. The DVD has variant covers. Also, more confusing is that one is rated "15" whilst the other is an "18":

Maybe one is a Directors Cut?

or maybe it's because RObbie is posing in different directions on the two covers...:D

Cracker went through the bbfc today - rated 15.
Doesn't look like it's extended with a 108 minute running time [the 2 hours 33 listed on play must incude the behind the scenes aswell]..

Looks like it's down to the commentary then. No doubt the episode will be screened over and over, and the behind the scenes was broadcast too (quite interesting by the way). I have the huge box set that came out way back when - however, I feel this episode wasn't strong enough to warrant my buying it. There's simply too much other stuff going on out there.

Would like to see more of them though, with more focus on Cracker himself, along with his methods.
