Has anyone put in a pre-order for the Video watchdog Mario Bava book? I've been following its progress since it was first announced and is now nearing completion. I'm very tempted but the price tag ($115 including postage outside USA) is putting me off :(

Don't forget there's already a Bava book from Britain's FAB Press, The Haunted World of Mario Bava (http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/1903254051/mondoerotico05)

I'm sure it's excellent, but the Watchdog Bava book is apparently over a 1000 pages long and must be the last word in all things Bavian.... )

After publication the price goes up to $120 plus postage which would take it near to $145-150!

Isn't that just the price of the signed hardcover version? I would have thought that a standard edition would be published as well (a bit like FAB press do). As much as I love Bava (the director, not the heroin from Pulp Fiction), I'd rather spend that sort of money on the man's dvds, so I'm pretty sure a normal edition will be forthcoming. Although I remember about ten years ago thinking who would pay over £30 for a hardback about Jess Franco? and now feeling like an idiot that I didn't pick up a copy of OBSESSION!

I've got this book on pre-order, though I ordered mine when the dollar was quite low against the pound so it cost me about £50. As the exchange rate now stands it's now going to cost you about £60.

Personally the price isn't a factor. I have to have this book. Troy Howarth's book is an excellent purchase for any Mario Bava fan but the upcoming Tim Lucas book is simply ESSENTIAL.

redeyes you jammy lad! When did you order yours? Did you get on the list of patrons as well?

I've had an email from Video Watchdog saying they're not sure if there will be a paperback yet as they don't know if a paperback binding will hold the book. There may be some cheaper 'seconds' after the book is printed though. I'm still thinking...

I pre-ordered it about 4 months ago. So no I doubt that I'll make it to the patrons list, you never know though!

Hello I've just joined the forum.

I know I'll be getting my name in the book, but I should do seeing as it must be about 2 years since I pre-ordered.

Nice one Neil! Welcome aboard.

I wish I'd been as on the ball as you were and pre-ordered the book when it was first announced. At least I can be comforted by the fact that I'll get a signed copy. It's going to be the 'last word' as far as books on Mario Bava is concerened and I'll be proud to be an owner of this mighty tome when it finally lands!
