I currently have the Redemption R2 version of "The Living Dead Girl" (cut) but am considering upgrading to the new Dark Side version (uncut).
I assume the quality is better, but exactly how much footage has been restored? Are we talking seconds or minutes?
Many thanks...

The BBFC website lists 2m 29s cut for the Redemption version and although I haven't made a really close comparison between the R1 and Redemption R2 which I have, the most noticeable cuts are:
Half an hour in when the young couple are murdered. The Halloween-like scene when the boyfriend returns and starts spurting blood all over his girlfriend has lost several shots. Also when the girl is killed we see shots of spurting blood from her neck that have been eliminated in the Redemption.
At the end in the crypt when the girl is tied to the pillar she is topless and has several knife cuts made to her belly that have been removed (a shot from this scene can be seen in the Dark Side advert) - the Redemption version cuts straight to blood shooting onto the music box.
Interestingly the French trailer on the R1 disc includes a snippet of extra gore from the opening scene when the guy has his eyes poked out, which doesn't appear in either version...
Are the Dark Side versions of Living Dead Girl and Rape Of The Vampire both uncut? I assumed they were the same as the previously certified versions

So did I - as was Requiem on their previous release. You sure that it's uncut Linda?

I thought they uncut, but maybe not then...
Hopefully Marc M will be able to clear it up, as he's a Rollin expert and friend of Allan Bryce.
What was cut on the Dark Side release of "Requiem" ? I thought the whole point of the Dark Side DVDs was to present films uncut & in decent quality

There was over 6 mins cut from Requiem believe it or not, primarily (or all) from the dungeon rape sequence, you know with those masked goons banging away at the helpless bound females - BBFC hate stuff like that. I just got the uncut disc from the US and whilst the quality isn't brilliant, it's definitely worth having for the uncensored psychedelically insane footage in that dungeon. Yet to have a negative effect on me anyway.
Living Dead Girl is stripped of over 2 mins and I aint seen that resubmitted so we can only assume DS have the same censored version. However sometimes the BBFC can be slow updating so you never know - I somehow doubt it though.
The point of the DS discs wasn't to present films uncut, I think it was simply to bring good quality, value-for-money versions of unusual films to DVD in the UK. Unfortunately the nature of the material hasn't worked in their favour as far as censorship is concerned hitherto. Bummer eh?

I'm not an expert... I go by the BBFC site and generally don't know if a film has been pre-cut or not unless someone tells me. But... The Dark Side Living Dead Girl does seem a lot gorier than the old Redemption video version. Maybe my memory is just crap.
Having said that there is a gore scene in the trailer that is not in the film itself. But then I read that it was often the case that Rollin's trailers had scenes that weren't in any version of the film (I can't remember where I read that though so this might also be an issue related to my crap memory).
I'd have to know exactly what was supposed to be cut from either film to say whether they were uncut or not. What I will say is that the quality on both Living Dead Girl and Rape of the Vampire is exemplary.

I've e-mailed the Dark Side site to try and find out. If I get a reply I'll pass it on. If they are both uncut it would certainly be a worthwhile purchase.

But there's no re-submission for LDGirl..... so either, a) BBFC have been slow updating, though I don't think they'd be that slow, b) DS have decided against including the BBFC approved version, again I doubt that because of Allan's original comments in response to the fact that Requiem was the censored version, or c) the DS is the same cut as the Redemption tape.

Anyone here that went to the Jean Rollin Eurofest in 1996? I'd love to see THE LIVING DEAD GIRL released in THAT form! They missed out a reel in the scenes of the guy getting his eyes ripped out...only for it to turn up in the last 10 mins of the film!LOL

Well there's been no answer from the Dark Side site to my email yet, but the BBFC can be slow in posting details sometimes. There are some 'new' listings for films submitted by GMVS that have been in the shops for a few months!

I was told by someone who knows Allan Bryce (small place, London) that this release had circumvented the BBFC in some way, but that someone will say anything to get a sale so I don’t really know. Still, it was fairly cheap….
Rape.. is listed on the sleeve as uncut but there are no such assurances in respect of Living Dead Girl. What I couldn’t find on the disc was ‘Vampire Vixens’ – it’s listed on the spine but I can’t find it for the life of me.

Maybe they've taken the 'hidden extra' concept one step too far and now, in fact, not even the guys at Dark Side can find the bloody thing.

Any official word on this yet?
Fab Press are selling this DVD and describe both films as fully UNCUT, so maybe that's true after all?
Personally I'd be disappointed if Allan Bryce DID release any more cut films on his Dark Side label, as in a recent editorial he admits to "...not normally recommending a cut release..."

I never did get a reply to my email to the Dark Side site, don't know if that signifies anything or not? Anyone else like to try?
