One of the laws of attraction states this: "The simplest way for me to look at the law of attraction is if I think of myself as a magnet, and I know that a magnet will attract to it." In other words; if you see it in your mind, you're going to hold it in your hand. Or: if you can think about what you want in your mind, and make that your dominant thought, you will bring it into your life.

Baloney and pretentious, perhaps. But I had what I believe to be a minor experience with the law of attraction very recently. I like to collect Hammer films on and off. One of which I've been after for a long time is Lust for a vampire. I have the stand alone of Vampire lovers, so I didn't really want to fork out for the double disc set which includes both films, but decided to place an order for it with Amazon anyway for the new year.

After putting the film on my wish list, I went up the high street. British heart foundation charity shop was open so I popped in to have a look round. Scanning the DVD shelves I found, much to my surprise and pleasure, the 2 disc release; Vampire lovers & Lust. I was surprised. Normally this shop never has anything other than blockbuster type DVDS. I've certainly never seen any Hammer films there before. It was going for a song as well, cheaper than Amazon. Well pleased. So I bought it. Naturally.

Today I had to go to another town about 6 miles away on an errand. There's a British heart foundation charity shop there too. I popped in, principally to placate my 7 yr son who wanted to buy a book, a cheap toy. while he was looking at the books I had a quick scan of the DVD shelves. Not much on offer; then I saw it; the stand alone Warner's release of Lust for a vampire. I laughed at this. It's not a DVD you come across every day, is it? To find the film I'd been thinking about buying, a film that is not hugely in demand, in two different chains of the same charity shop, is a bit odds against, don't you think?

It's easy to dismiss this maybe as nothing but perhaps there's more to this law of attraction after all.

Very interesting topic there mate. I've kinda anticipated things before they happen, things like knowing when the phones going to ring-even when i'm not expecting one. Or before i receive a PM on here;). Cant say its happened when looking for films or suchlike though, worse luck:(. Anyone else have anything to add to this 'phenomena'?

Last week, I got to thinking about Q Winged Serpent, and then fell asleep. On Thursday went into the Red Cross charity shop, just browsing looked at the adult titles which were 10 for a quid and saw the general crap ranging from Kylie Minogue to The Full Monty.

Browsed the books, and then looked at the childrens selection. Right at thebottom on floor level tucked in the corner was Q on VHS.

Weirdest example of this in my life:

I had once owned, or rather borrowed long-term from a mate at boarding school, a copy of the Marks 7 Sparks "65 Great Tales Of Horror" hardback anthology edited by Mary Danby, which was confiscated by some bastard of a teacher as he believed it to be "unsuitably macabre and violent" for a 10 year old to read. This from a man who used to give me 'chinese haircuts' with his knuckles because I suffered from mathematical dyslexia. But anyhoo, I lamented the passing of this book from my collection, especially as I could only remember 64 of the titles and desperately wanted to know what the other one was. Attempts by my parents to buy me a copy led to nought as we were informed by St Michael that it had been 'deleted'.

In 1988, I came into contact with it again as my father and I stood on Oxford Station waiting for the train back to Birmingham: I pleaded with the chap reading it to sell it to my Dad for a fiver, but he informed me it was his aunt's and she wanted it back. It seemed permanently out of reach until 11 years later in Jan 1999, when my then girlfriend and I were in the process of attempting to break up 'amicably' by walking around Hampstead Village talking a lot.

It didn't work, and we grew to hate each other (particularly when she got married a week later to an 18 year old millionaire) but something that day led me to think of the book (probably because of the conversation touching on the subject of 'regrets' and 'lost chances' and drew me towards a particular antiquarian shop down a small mews. Once within, I asked the owner with trepidation if he had ever seen or owned a copy: within a couple of minutes, the ex and I had been led to a small corner hidden behind a stack of 'waiting room' magazines, upon which our host pointed to a large brown shiny volume and said, "You mean this one?"

Needless to say, despite it being £5 and me being skint that week, I snapped it up immediately, and have never parted with it again since. Looking back, I just knew I was going to come upon it that day (oo er), as if something had led me to visualise finding it. Maybe it was my recompense for the wasted six or seven months spent in the company of the evil, manipulative harpy known as Fifi Woodford. Maybe it wasn't, but on reflection, the book meant more to me than she ever did and still does. Ironically, since then, I have also acquired all the other Marks hardback anthologies with very little effort!!

So it does work, but the circumstances have to be right. Oh, and in case you wondered, the story I couldn't remember was THE WILL OF LUKE CARLOWE- although I still can't remember the name of the bloody author.

I certainly believe in the law of attraction.

In a nutshell, the root to your experience/creations lies in your beliefs and resulting attitudes - once you are aware of these, you can work with them to either let them go or generate similar beliefs/thoughts depending on what you wish to experience/create.

Consciousness creates matter. Not the other way around. Work with your consciousness (thoughts, beliefs, attitudes, expectations, emotions etc.) and you are in the driving seat and can thus choose your own direction. This is true responsibility and creativity.

Some things exist regardless of your belief in it - such as this fundamental universal law of attraction. This is of course my own belief. :)

BTW, I have taught my dog Henry this technique - here he is willing a BLT into existence:
