In case anyone is interested the new 2 disc Deer Hunter's featurettes were done by Dave Gregory and Blue Underground. All three are good, especially John Savage who has almost completely broken down by the end of the interview. The commentary is good too.
Sorry, not quite the norm for discussion on ABUK site but I thought it was well worth recommending. (Still had me crying at the end too. Sorry)

Excellent movie! My 2nd fave of all time (after Ninth Configuration and before Dawn of the Dead!). Keep meaning to pick up this new edition, but for some reason keep forgetting.

Is the Ninth Configuration DVD that's just been (re)released anamorphic widescreen or merely letterbox? Thanks.

Just wanted to revise my opinion of the commentary by Cimino - it is awesome. He comes over as an incredibly decent bloke and his anecdotes from the shooting of the film are continually interesting. One in particular in regard to a real veteran in the ward John Savage's character ends up in (they shot at a genuine ward in a real hospital) brought a tear to my eye and caught Cimino out emotionally to the extent that he could not talk for several minutes and the critic (sorry - name not on cover but very good with Cimino) had to hold the fort alone. Outstanding.
It's hard to believe that this man brought down UA and is so maligned by some areas of the industry. I imagine the forthcoming Year of the Dragon from MGM will be extra free apart from the trailer which is a great shame. Thank God some companies endeavor to get the directors involved, and whilst this is a Warners release, I have to commend ABUK for continually trying to give us the best value they can. It is appreciated when we can hear what the directors and others involved speak on their work. A dull commentary will usually yield up one or two interesting facts but a good one can enhance and change the way we view a film.

By the way Shogun, Dawn of the Dead is my favourite film then The Deer Hunter (and sometimes Bullet in the Head depending on my mood). I quite liked 9th Configuation but not enough to buy.
I did not enter the 100 best horror films as I don't differentiate - I could probably list off 100 films in order that I prefer but trying to split down the horror is difficult (Alien - is that SF or horror?), how about just a top 100 films next time? I am sure the bias will still be to horror. (Yes I know that we only needed to list 20) (Videodrome - horror, SF or fantasy? Documentary perhaps...)

If you have a Safeway local to you, I noticed about a week ago that THE DEER HUNTER (2 disc version) was priced at 9.99 ...
