There was always something reassuring about seeing this debonair globetrotter on our TV screens in the 70's and 80's, whether interviewing the rich and famous/infamous, or cruising the streets of San Francisco filming their police force.

In 2005 the awesome Network label released the tantalisingly titled Whicker's World Volume One, featuring 8 episodes spanning 1969 to 1980.

Up until now it looked like Network's Whicker releases would begin and end with only one volume - however, a cursory look at the Forthcoming Releases on the Network site shows that Volume 2 is scheduled for 14 January. (The same release date as Network's Who Killed Teddy Bear ;) )

Genre fans should note that one of the episodes on Volume 2 features Nothing Is Utopia, This Comes Pretty Close, about Brits living in Los Angeles, and in which Whicker interviews Christopher Lee, Peter Sellers, and Patrick Macnee.

I loved Whicker's programmes. He made even the most mundane subject seem interesting. His programme featuring the filming of Frankenheimer's Grand Prix is a classic and appears in edited form on the SE DVD of the film.
