It's a little early to have much to say about this new film - but I reckon there'll be quite a few expectations for it. When the guy that made Oldboy (let alone the other films in the vengeance trilogy) decides to make a vampire tale, it's bound to turn a few heads.
But perhaps the most significant thing about it, and it's not something we usually concern ourselves about, is that financing for this title is coming partly from a major US studio, meaning we're likely to see this getting a wide release (we can hope anyway).
Universal Pictures and Focus Films have just announced they intend to co-fund the directors new vampire movie Thirst. Apparently this is the first time a Korean film has received American funding and distribution commitment before its local release, and we reckon will pretty much guarantee a quick release Stateside also!
Synopsis: Beloved and devoted priest from a small town volunteers for a medical experiment which fails and turns him into a vampire. Physical and psychological changes lead to his affair with a wife of his childhood friend who is repressed and tired of her mundane life. The one-time priest falls deeper in despair and depravity. As things turns for worse, he struggles to maintain what’s left of his humanity.
Thirst stars Song Kang-ho (The Host), and Shin Ha-kyun (Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance) with Kim Ok-bi ("Dasepo Naughty Girls) as leading lady. Thirst is currently in production, with a release due mid-2009.

I'm looking forward to this.
