Well here's as good as anyplace! Does anybody use CD/DVD cleaning kits & are they any good?
The reason I ask is my little lad has a habit of sneaking to my DVD collection & taking the Disc's out of the case on the one's he likes the look of. Once he's had them in his hands, the disc's are left with big greasey finger marks & are hard to play. If anyone can recommend a kit to clean them up I would be much appreciated.

For filthy and even hard to impossible to play scratched discs, Ive found this device works the best.
It has saved me a fortune in replacement discs.:)

Dont buy those cheap cleaners from poundland, they just ruin your discs.

I use a bottle of isopropyl alcohol and a microfibre cloth.

Go to a pound shop, look for one of those CD cleaner kits containing the (isopropyl alcohol) solution, discard the rest of the set and then go to your local high street optician where you can ask for/buy a microfibre cloth or two.

Leave the alcohol to soak for 30 seconds and wipe away - you can use your own hands sensitivity to remove fingerprints etc. which is of course more refined than a blanket scrub over the whole disc.

You can also clean the cases with this combo.
Don't use lighter fluid on the discs - it's way too acidic - however use lighter fluid on the cases to totally remove any stickers/adhesive glue from unwanted labels.

I just did my entire collection - 1,000 plus discs - took me 5 arduous weeks - however, they are now gonna last me another decade in the moist climate I have here in Ireland which can bring on mildewing at a startling rate if your discs and cases aren't totally devoid of fingerprints. Phew... :)

I use the inside of a piece of leather to clean smudges. Works well and doesn't leave scratches. Been thinking about a Skip Doctor (pictured in orgasmos post), but have been too worried that it'll ruin the disc. Anyone have any horror stories about these?

I know that Gamestation have a machine like that looks similar to this. It's bigger and more impressive looking but I think that they charge a quid and if it doesn't repair it they give you your money back.

Took a DVD to one of these video game shops once. It didn't have a scratch on it, but skipped. When they were done with it it still skipped, but it was covered in scratches too. So beware if you go to one of these shops and there is a goofy teen behind the counter.

Baby toothpaste is the best thing I've ever come across for scratches on cd's/dvd's.
Just rub a small amount into a scratch with a wet finger or cotton bud and gradually buff away the scratch then rinse off with water.

I'm serious.

Just did this with a DVD. It worked! I don't know if I'd recommend it (you may want to try it on a blank CD-R {or a crappy Alpha or Mya DVD} to test it), but the disc plays now and smells minty fresh.
