Here's an interesting case against downloads from the gaming arena.
Today the PS3 game Siren: Blood Curse has been released on the playstation network for download direct to the PS3 harddrive, for the reasonable price of £19.99. The only problem is that the download is 10gig in size and due to a combination of lack of PS3 harddrive space (most people will have 40 or 60gig models), Sony's limited server capacity and UK broadband speeds and limits, this is kind of impractical. The game is available on bluray disc in Japan but as far as I know Sony has no plans to release it on disc in Europe. You can download and play it in 4 separate chunks, but these are £6.99 each, meaning you will pay almost 40% more if you take this route.
