I know we all clamber after "originality" (although few of us can define it) and/or visceral gore to help poor movies limp along, but if we relax a little and simply accept that not all films are going to be classics,we might end up finding some films that might not excel, but entertain nonetheless.
Unearthed is like that.
This is an Alien rip off really, though they move the location from a space ship to a very small town in Mexico. Once you see the creature the inspirations are obvious, but don't let that ruin it for you too much. There's the odd bit of gore and action, and while the characters are really stock, let's not forget that they're stock because it's fun to watch them die.
The main problem I have with it is that it's too dark - something also suffered by the new A v. P film. Come on guys, let us at least see what's going on. Combine quick cutting with too much darkness and you end up with a bit of a mess.
Still, it's also fun. The creature design steals from a classic, and there are certainly worse ways to spend 90 minutes or so.
Middling this, but if you see it for a decent price, it's probably worth taking the plunge.
