Hm - dodgy this. From the Driector that brought us Urban Legend and Valentine. The latter would be good if the gore footage was cut back in, and they're competently made films, but they don't make you want to rush out and pick this one up. Which is a pity.
This seems to have gone under the radar somewhat, so any little I can do to bring it to peoples attention is for the good. It's a good watch, and nicely made.
The basic premise is a couple who get lost while out boating. They end up on an island with a lone farmhouse. They take shelter from an approaching storm, but the family they meet in the house are worse than any thunder-clap...
Good performances, a few nasty lines that'll make you cringe, and a nice feeling of dread help this film entertain as a horror flick. It's not an original idea of course, but never mind. Instead it's a nice retread of familiar ground, and it never feels too worn out to really insult you.
Tense, atmospheric, and for horror fans (those who like intimidation and peril flicks) will find something to like.
Definately worthwhile this. Recommnded.

I've been pondering whether to pick this up so I may give it a go now you've recommended it Black.

Yeah, its unoriginal but suitably nasty and that’s what gives it the edge over more average fare. I watched this on account of it being written by Everett De Roche (Roadgames, Razorback, Patrick, Long Weekend) and while its not in the same league as those, its definitely above average.
If you liked this I recommend Frontier(e)s, which has a similar unfriendly locals theme but is far more intense.

Storm Warning
Another entry into the seemingly unstoppable wave of "backwoods/'torture porn' movies", "Storm Warning" has still a lot to offer, though it's certainly one of the most likely canidates for getting first truly appreciated for what it is when the "horror boom" has died down and the overly picky fans get a chance to search through all the countless titles these "Big Fat Years" seem(ed) to churm out on a daily basis.
Who'd have thought that "Urban Legend's" Jamie Blanks could helm a truly nervewrecking rival for "Wolf Creek"?
Like that other more recent Australian shocker, "Storm Warning" seems to walk on overly familiar ground at first glance, but the execution is similarly superior to many US competitors as far as photography, mood, character developement and tension are concerned.
One HUGE plus are the adult leads and the slow burning build up, which'll get you guessing how gruesome things are going to get this time around.
Let me just assure you that you'll get your money's worth of bloodletting, but the violence is rather used as an integral part of the plot, not as a "Saw-sequel-esque" "main attraction" (while I wouldn't have had an issue with that as such, either).
As a fan of modern "retro horror", I can full heartedly recommend this, but as I wrote earlier, "Storm Warning" is destined to win more friends over the years to come....

Just been watching this myself and I should have watched it before Eden Lake (a film I've not got out of my system yet) because I was hoping for something a bit more bleak. I thought it started off well and it was quite tense but the last 20 minutes was too Hollywood for my liking and come the end I wasn't really sure what to think. It was quite entertaining and the gore for one kill was f*cking bang on but I do think the director's Urban Legend & Valentine roots started to show in the finale.
Mildly recommended.

Thought Storm Warning was fairly good.
Nothing about the film annoyed me and it provided a decent set of characters.
I was trying to place the actress(Nadia Fares) in it,as I had seen in her in a late night film on TV.
Turns out it was Love in the Strangest Way,a French film.
Picked up the DVD of it.
Good film,shoddy picture quality.

I thought this film was okay, beautiful to look at in the early stages. The set-up was good, but then it regressed into a predictable last half. Not bad, though, for a low budget effort. :)

She was the main reason I picked up the movie. I liked her in Crimson Rivers and The Nest (Nid de Guepes).
