I am a big fan of Synapse and own a large number:

THE BRAIN THAT WOULDN'T DIE
BEAST FROM HAUNTED CAVE
THRILLER - A CRUEL PICTURE
FANTASM
BLUE SUNSHINE
BRUTES AND SAVAGES
LONG WEEKEND
GRAPES OF DEATH
NAIL GUN MASSACRE
DARIO ARGENTO'S WORLD OF HORROR
ENTRAILS OF A VIRGIN
ENTRAILS OF A BEAUTIFUL WOMAN
BRAIN DAMAGE
DEADLY SPAWN (forgot to add in initial post)
FLAVIA THE HERETIC (forgot to add in initial post)
LEMORA - A CHILD'S TALE OF THE SUPERNATURAL (forgot to add in initial post)

I am currently waiting for Maniac Cop SE, Wild Zero, Stacy, Street Trash Meltdown edition, Castle of Blood (forgot to add in initial post) and also Christmas Evil (thanks the dude!) They have a lot more titles available but I feel that I have pretty much the best of them. I will probably get Fantasm Comes Again at some point but is it worth owning any of the following: Singapore Sling, The Image, Invasion USA, Triumph of the Will (I fancy this one), Exorcism, 42nd Street Forever vols 1 & 2, Evil Dead Trap, Organ, A Better Place, Bocchanes Sexualles (is that right?). Can anyone make any recommendations or have I pretty much got all that's worth owning. I don't want to buy something on blind buys (please let me know if any stinkers) when there is so many other things I want but I don't want to be missing out on anything either

Thanks guys

Triumph Of The Will is a classic and the latest Synapse pressing is the way to see it.
Invasion USA is a mind boggling Red Scare film with good extras.
Organ is extremely messy but has its followers, I wasn't keen.
A Better Place is a very good drama with a Kevin Smith connection.
Evil Dead Trap is a minor classic even if the end does seem to have come from another film. Worth seeing just for the crossbow.
Exorcism is one of Jess Franco's better films but I'm not a Franco fan.

I thought evil dead trap was brilliant!
Very tense and creepy, with lots of gore to keep the splatter fans happy. Summat for everyone then.:D
Pity the sequel is absolute bollocks!:(

Organ did not appeal to me at all, just something about the narrative and the way it was shot distanced me from it,no doubt it has its fans.

Other Synapse titles I would highly recommend are:

Exorcism - One of my favourite Franco movies, this movie positively drips with atmosphere and Gothic perversity. Superb.

Castle of Blood - A superb black and white gothic chiller very much in the vein of Bava. This is a superb film from Antonio Margheriti (aka Anthony Dawson). You really should add this one to your collection - it's fantastic.

Flavia the Heretic - A real Euro oddity this one with some nasty stuff mixed into the rather surreal mix. Well worth checking out.

Organ - This is perhaps the strangest Asian horror movie ever made - it's really trippy and very strange. It will leave you more than a little dazed and confused - but it's a great ride nonetheless.

Evil Dead Trap - Very, very atmospheric. This is essential viewing. The sequel (available from Unearthed Films) is even more surreal, and equally brutal.

Lemora - This has a very strange ethereal fairy tale quality to it that I really liked. A lot of people haven't taken to this movie, but I found it thoroughly mesmerising.

And you'll be very pleased with the Maniac Cop disc when you get it. It has a whole host of extra features (including all the extra stuff shot for the Japanese TV version). The film itself looks stunning - a real good job on remastering by Synapse on this one. This disc is a definite keeper. :)

I'm surprised nobody's mentioned The Deadly Spawn yet,Synapse released an extras packed SE DVD of this cult alien splatter flick. ;)

Another Synapse disc well worth picking up is their superb uncut and extended release of Arthur Davis' atrociously awful 1975 mondo film Brutes And Savages. This film boasts random brain surgery, gratuitous simulated llama buggery and the most hilariously fake crocodile attack in cinematic history all narrated by Richard Johnson (who must have seriously needed the money).

Presentation quality is excellent for a film of this vintage and this aptly named "uncivilised" version apparently includes a fair chunk of footage not present in the old Derann pre cert VHS tape or any other prior release for that matter.

A must for fans of trashy exploitation.

Oops, thanks for the reminder CJ, I have the above mentioned but forgot to include them. Lemora is one of my favourites and Synapse have given it one hell of an upgrade over previous screenings. Castle of Blood is one I have on the way but I thought it was Elite

Have this too! Excellent package aswell for an entertainingly bad film

Thanks for your help guys, keep em coming. Oh and has anyone seen Deli?

Another of those I want to get round to watching. I would have had I not seen Faces of Death recently, a complete bore. Is Brutes better than that? If the word is no then this is heading for the bin :D

'Brutes and Savages' is one of my personal guilty pleasures, but if you found 'Faces of Death' a bore (personally I think its a classick) Dracucarr you may not get much out of it. 'Exorcism' is a decent Franco flick and the Synapse release is a good one, although Midnight Video offer the alternate XXX version. Radley Metzger's 'The Image' is a very well made film about S&M with occassional lurches into hardcore territory.

I have to say 'Evil Dead Trap' bored me (despite a good first 15m) and its sequel was even worse. 'Organ' I saw years back and I think that was even more boring than 'Evil Dead Trap 2'.

Hmmm, so it looks like I'll struggle with Brutes then. I have saw one XXX version of a Franco film, a dutch release I think of Female Vampire. No english language or subtitles but they were unneeded. God was that a chore to sit through. The thin story was even thinner and the horror was substituted for poor oral sex scenes. Avoid! Organ it seems is one to cross off the list based on some opinion, although CJ has given some hope for it. Anyone seen the Rollin film Bacchanales Sexuelles?

Don't forget to add Christmas Evil to your Synapse list.

Oh yes, forgot that one. It's an excellent disc of a movie that holds fond memories for me. It's a stellar presentation, too.

Singapore Sling is an excellent, quirky film with odd, deliberately OTT performances, attractive black-and-white photography and some stand-out moments of unexpected perversion.

The transfer's excellent although it contains burnt-in subtitles (and optional superior subtitles which hide the burnt-in ones!).

I had heard some negative things about Singapore Sling so thanks for renewing my interest Claire!

I'd import as many controversial Synapse, Blue Underground and other DVDs as soon as possible, before the Dangerous Pictures Act creeps in and could potentially criminalise you with 3 years in the klink and/or being put on the Sex Offenders register for possessing them :(

I've heard some promising things about Night Train, a film noir with sleaze, and I think its going to be on my New Year's dvd list of titles to buy. Anyone seen this one?

Has anyone seen Lemora: A Child's Tale Of The Supernatural? I bought a copy recently and was left very disappointed. I kept hearing how this was an unearthed gem and one of the horror greats and so on but I just don't see how. It looks the part, it's extremely atmospheric and has some cool looking monsters but the plot is almost nonexistent, absolutely nothing happens, it fails to be erotic, and yeah despite looking good I found it very dull.

By the way Drac in case you don't have it yet I would say to avoid Night Train, it wasn't my bag at all was that though the disc was good enough.

The Synapse discs I have are:

Deadbeat At Dawn
Brain Damage
Bizarre
Thriller: A Cruel Picture
God Has A Rap Sheet
A Better Place
Star Warp'd
Night Train
Nail Gun Massacre
Cold Hearts
Lemora
Fatal Frames

I also got their Document Of The Dead in my Anchor Bay Dawn Of The Dead set and Exorcism came in a Public Domain pack .

Oh brother. I can't do anything but echo your comments. This film did nothing for me, and I was very disappointed (I's even go as far as to say you're being kind to it!). Frankly it's not even something I'm remotely interested in revisiting any time soon. It just kind of sits in my collection with nothing to do. --LOL--

Does THE DEADLY SPAWN have an option to watch it with its original opening sequence?

What's the original opening sequence?

ForestFilmsUK

shadow cardboard cutouts seen eating people through a tent (backlit), with the sound of tearing.

I'd heard that Synapse got rid of this, and replaced it with a new opening that the filmmakers wanted to put in instead. Did synapse drop this?

I'm ashamed to say I STILL havent bought this DVD despite being close to buying it for I don't know how long. I'm still stuck with the '90s Vipco tape with the lovely artwork . I like the film a lot, it's crap but fun crap.

By the way what's the comic-style prequel like? I'm intrigued.

Go on mate. It is, after all, inevitable.

It's a fun enough movie, and that final scene is just too good.

I've gone way over the limit on my spending so will have to hold off until next week. I really must get it, I hate it when I mean to buy a film but keep putting it off.

I have a lengthy Wish List at a well known Internet site. I'm constantly adding to it as new things come along, and at times I'll make sizable orders (60 odd discs). By apparently like you, there is a hardcore contingent of titles that seem always to be on it. I obviously want them, but they keep getting pushed to the back when push comes to shove, and I have to choose. It's a bitch.
