I haven't seen this one mentioned yet..kinda surprised.
When a grindhouse theater owner's entire staff is massacred by vicious gangsters on opening night, he falls back on his old violent ways to get revenge.
"You want scum, you came to the right place."
Once upon a time, there existed a sleazy haven for degenerates, junkies, prostitutes and thugs. That place was 42nd Street, the Deuce. In the 80s, the Deuce still clung to its unsavory origins. For better or worse, Glen Barnes (John Patrick Hayden) looks to keep his grindhouse operation legitimate and must fight the underworld criminals who hold sway in these parts. When Glen's entire staff is massacred on opening night, Glen must revert back to his violent history to exact a little revenge. Meanwhile, Glen's cop exgirlfriend (Michelle Owens) tries to convince him to keep his nose clean while her partner, played by Jeff Fahey ("Lost", PLANET TERROR), tries to snuff their rekindling romance.
Co-starring Carl Fury (POSED FOR MURDER) and directed by Tim Kincaid (BAD GIRLS DORMITORY), RIOT ON 42nd STREET is a sleazy salute to a beloved bygone era.

On 25 January 2010 the BFI will issue a sampler disc entitled Kim Newman's Guide to the Flipside of British Cinema on DVD, which was produced by Nucleus Films in conjunction with the BFI.
If you’re a fan of classic and cult British films – from Alfie to Performance, from The Devils to Withnail and I – then this indispensable guide to a previously uncharted, alternative history of British cinema is for you...
In an all-new 40-minute documentary, produced exclusively for the BFI, the UK's most knowledgeable and well-respected cult film critic, Kim Newman, explores such questions as how the director of Help! and Superman II came to make one of the world's greatest, but little-known, black comedies, and lifts the lid on which previously unseen British film features Helen Mirren in her debut role.
Along with a selection of original trailers and short films – including one that is exclusive to this release* – this is your passport to the exciting and surprising world of The Flipside. All titles can now be seen on DVD and Blu-ray for the first time ever, in the BFI Flipside collection. The sampler includes:
- Carousella (1966, 25 mins): originally banned by the BBFC, this controversial dramatised documentary on the lives of a group of striptease artistes was directed by celebrated Hollywood filmmaker John Irvin (Hamburger Hill, Raw Deal)
- The Spy's Wife (1972, 27 mins): directed by Gerry O'Hara (All the Right Noises, The Bitch), this little-seen short film stars the inimitable Tom Bell (The L-Shaped Room, Prime Suspect) and Ann Lynn (Screamtime, Separation) in a modish tale of intrigue and extra-marital relations
- Tomorrow Night in London*: a vibrant and fast-paced tourist board short made in the 1960s extolling the virtues, and fashions, of London's swinging scene
- Flipside trailer reel
- Illustrated booklet with essays and film credits

On March 2, 2010 Shout! Factory will issue John Carpenter's Elvis (1979) on DVD.
Few figures in popular culture have endured in our collective consciousness as has multi-Grammy® Award–winning artist Elvis Presley. Crowned as the King of Rock ’n’ Roll, Presley’s revolutionary rockabilly music and captivating performances were as much a part of his legend as his uninhibited hip swivels, blue suede shoes, his charm and good looks. There have been motion pictures, television specials and books chronicling the roller-coaster life of Elvis Presley, and one of the most successful of these properties came in the acclaimed 1979 film ELVIS, starring Golden Globe® nominee Kurt Russell in the title role, directed by John Carpenter. This highly regarded production captures the essence of The King at a time when his many fans were still mourning his passing. Hailed by audiences as one of the most powerful and moving biographical films, ELVIS garnered a Golden Globe® nomination and multiple Emmy® nominations, including one for Kurt Russell as Outstanding Lead Actor for his incandescent performance as the King of Rock ’n’ Roll. The film also marked Carpenter and Russell’s first collaboration in what would become a legendary pairing.
Timed closely to coincide with the 75th anniversary of Elvis Presley’s birth, Shout! Factory, in association with Dick Clark Productions, present ELVIS on DVD for the first time March 2, 2010. This collectible DVD features the main presentation of the movie restored from the original film elements as it was meant to be seen, as well as an array of bonus features including: “Bringing A Legend To Life,” a featurette with archival interviews of Kurt Russell and John Carpenter (1979); commentary by “The Voice Of Elvis,” Ronnie McDowell, and author Edie Hand; rare clips and captivating photo gallery. Even 33 years after his passing, Presley continues to burn a powerful image of rock stardom and still conquers new legions of fans through his indelible mark in worldwide pop culture. Available for the first time in the home entertainment marketplace, this long-awaited DVD debut of the film ELVIS is priced to own at $19.97.
Directed by John Carpenter, the biopic of Elvis Presley stars Kurt Russell and features the voice of ’70s country music hitmaker Ronnie McDowell re-creating Presley’s signature vocals. Tracing Presley’s life from his impoverished childhood to his meteoric rise to stardom to his triumphant return to Las Vegas, this film boasts an all-star ensemble including Academy Award® winner Shelley Winters (A Place In The Sun) as Elvis’ mother Gladys; Season Hubley (All My Children) as his wife Priscilla; Kurt Russell’s real-life father Bing Russell (The Magnificent Seven) as Elvis’s father Vernon Presley; Pat Hingle (Batman) as Colonel Tom Parker; Robert Gray (Murder She Wrote) as Red West; Golden Globe nominee Joe Mantegna (Searching for Bobby Fischer) as Memphis mafia member Joe Esposito; and Golden Globe nominee Ed Begley Jr. (St. Elsewhere) as D.J. Fontana.

When they first ventured in to the DVD market some of their releases wer very shoddy with nasty artwork too e.g The Crow.
Are their Blu-Rays as good as their US counterparts? I want to get Gangs of New York but not sure if the US one is the one to go for or EIVs

Released on March 15th via Optimum. Extras still to be announced.
On a small island off North America's coast, the dead rise to menace the living. Yet...the islanders can't bring themselves to exterminate their loved ones, despite the growing danger from those the once held dear. A rebel among them hunts down all the zombies he can find, only to be banished from the island for assassinating his neighbors and friends. On the mainland, bent on revenge, he encounters a small band of survivors in search of an oasis on which to build a new life. Barely surviving an attack from a mass of ravenous flesh-eaters, they commandeer a zombie-infested ferry and sail to the island. There, to their horror, they discover that the locals have chained the dead inside their homes, pretending to live 'normal' lives...with bloody consequences. What ensues is a desperate struggle for survival and the answer to a question never posed in Romero's Dead films: Can the living ever live in peace with the dead?

On February 8, 2010 Network will issue the complete series of The Clifton House Mystery on DVD.
An old womans possessions are auctioned, and orchestral conductor Timothy Clare and his family move into her large, though rather gloomy and dilapidated, old house in Bristol. It soon becomes clear that this is a house full of secrets, and that Mrs. Betterton had good reason to leave with her young granddaughter, the ethereal, otherworldly Emily; after a series of frightening experiences and disturbing discoveries - including a walled-up room containing a skeleton - the Clares realise that they are not the only occupants. Unearthly presences inhabit the house, and the family must find a way to lay the ghosts to rest if they are ever to find peace there.
Eerie special effects, a twist-laden plot and highly atmospheric setting make for spine-tingling drama in this memorable six-part series for younger viewers. Made by HTV - renowned for producing inventive childrens drama with supernatural themes and a slightly sinister edge - The Clifton House Mystery stars Peter Sallis as Milton Guest, the eccentric but affable ghost-hunter who is eventually called upon to exorcise the restless spirits that plague the family. First screened in 1978, the complete series is available here for the very first time on DVD.
